As a long-time admirer of both Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, I must say that their friendship and camaraderie are truly inspiring. The story of McElhenney’s cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine, though it didn’t make the final cut, serves as a testament to their bond and mutual support.
Ryan Reynolds posted warmly on Instagram that his pal Rob McElhenney, famed for his role in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and as a co-owner of Wrexham AFC, featured briefly in the latest Deadpool & Wolverine movie. Unfortunately, this brief appearance didn’t make it to the final version of the film, but Reynolds is optimistic that it might be seen in the Additional Digital Content instead.
On August 23rd, Reynolds shared on Instagram that McElhenney made an appearance as one of the Time Variance Authority (TVA) soldiers in the movie. Even though McElhenney was concealed under a helmet, Reynolds appreciated the cameo and acknowledged his friend’s assistance during filming.
In his post, Reynolds shared that editing a movie can require difficult choices, and this was one such instance. He stated, “I’d like to discuss my good friend, @robmcelhenney. Rob graciously did a cameo in #DeadpoolAndWolverine, which we hope will end up in the bonus digital material.” Reynolds elaborated on how the scene with McElhenney didn’t turn out as anticipated, resulting in its exclusion from the movie’s final version.
Reynolds underlined that even though the scene was taken out, McElhenney’s impact on the project remained substantial. He explained, “It’s comforting to do tough tasks when friends are around,” and expressed his appreciation for any role McElhenney played in the production, regardless of its size.
1. The film’s creators strove to include unforgettable appearances for viewers, and Reynolds and McElhenney contributed significantly towards achieving that aim. The takeover of Fox by Disney signified the start of Deadpool’s assimilation into Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Alongside Reynolds, Jackman, Levy, and others put in a lot of effort to ensure this film would be successful, with McElhenney’s cameo being one of numerous elements intended to connect with the audience.
The friendship between Reynolds and McElhenney is marked by mutual respect and a long history together. McElhenney has praised Reynolds as a truly inspiring friend, and their connection extends beyond work. Both are major shareholders in the Welsh football team, Wrexham AFC.
Despite the fact that McElhenney’s cameo was removed from the final movie, Reynolds continues to be optimistic that fans will eventually get to see his role. Reynolds expressed his feelings by saying, “I’m embarrassed that he traveled all the way to London for a scene that didn’t make it, but I’m thankful my friend was there with me on set. Whenever I see Rob, my heart calms down and my body stops being anxious. He is always there for others. And he was there for me.”
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled that Deadpool & Wolverine is still playing in cinemas. Although David Harbour’s cameo might not be part of the initial theater run, Ryan Reynolds is hopeful it will be added as an exclusive digital bonus for fans to savor. The film remains a hot topic, with Deadpool leaving his indelible mark on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, keeping us all in eager anticipation.
