Ryan Reynolds Goes Full DOOGIE HOWSER After Neil Patrick Harris Cast in MARVEL’s DEADPOOL VR

Ryan Reynolds didn’t mind many others portraying a variation of his character in Deadpool and Wolverine, but now we know why: he was playing the main version of Deadpool. Apparently, he gets a little “immature” when someone else takes on the role of the top Merc With a Mouth. Given that Neil Patrick Harris is assuming this role in the upcoming Marvel’s Deadpool VR, Reynolds reacted just as you’d expect: by stepping into the shoes of Doogie Howser instead.

The recent Maximum Effort video is a ’90s-style advertisement promoting a contemporary game. Ryan Reynolds, who appears rather melancholic in the clip, portrays an older version of Doogie Howser’s character from the television show Doogie Howser, M.D.. In this hilarious video (most likely unappreciated by those under 30), the “adult” doctor expresses his disappointment that the actual Doogie Howser will voice Deadpool in the upcoming Meta Quest 3 and 3S game developed by Twisted Pixel and Oculus Studios.

The newly unveiled game, showcased during Summer Game Fest 2025, assures players of an entirely fresh narrative to experience. (Also, it debuted with a mature-rated trailer.) According to Meta:

Following his transportation to Mojoworld through a portal, Deadpool seizes an opportunity to amass immense wealth. He hastily agrees to a questionable contract without thoroughly reviewing its details, and subsequently embarks on a journey across various locations within the Marvel universe. Along the way, he engages in combat with both well-known and lesser-known adversaries. This experience transcends the conventional, delving into the Marvel universe’s multiverse rather than the virtual reality one.

The game’s real video footage illustrates why NPH was a brilliant casting decision for Deadpool. He truly excels in the role! This clip also demonstrates that no one is more skilled at cross-promotions than Reynolds. The idea behind this collaboration is particularly inventive, especially considering his sister-in-law, Robyn Lively, previously starred on “Doogie Howser, M.D.”

The actual game footage explains why NPH was a perfect pick for Deadpool. He absolutely shines in the role! This video also highlights Reynolds’ unmatched talent for crossover promotions. The concept behind this team-up is exceptionally creative, given that his sister-in-law, Robyn Lively, had starred on “Doogie Howser, M.D.

So, provided she avoids attempting to assume the role of Deadpool Prime, it’s likely that he will let her continue featuring in his videos.
