This trailer for Project Hail Mary focuses on the central relationship of the film: the connection between Ryland Grace (played by Ryan Gosling), humanity’s last hope, and an alien named Rocky. The preview shows them meeting, forming a bond, and even fighting together, and it’s clear their story will be emotionally impactful.

The movie Project Hail Mary is adapted from Andy Weir’s 2021 novel of the same name. Drew Goddard, who previously wrote the screenplay for Weir’s The Martian, penned the script. The film is directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, marking their first directorial effort since 2014’s 22 Jump Street. While they initially began working on Solo: A Star Wars Story, they were later replaced by Ron Howard. The story follows Ryland Grace (played by Ryan Gosling), a science teacher who wakes up on a spaceship far from Earth with no memory of his identity or how he arrived. As his memories return, he learns he must solve the mystery of a substance causing the sun to fade and save Earth from extinction, though he might not have to do it alone thanks to an unlikely friendship.

The movie Project Hail Mary stars Ryan Gosling, who also produced it, alongside Academy Award nominee Sandra Hüller, as well as Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung, and Milana Vayntrub. Grieg Fraser, the Oscar-winning cinematographer from Dune, is handling the visuals, and Daniel Pemberton, known for his work on Spider-Verse, composed the music. It’s a fantastic team, and to top it off, there’s even a rock alien! What more could you ask for?

Project Hail Mary hits theaters March 20, 2026.
