Previously, I mentioned that Ryan Coogler’s film “Sinners” appeared to be akin to his interpretation of “Blade,” and it seems my assumption was not entirely inaccurate.
Sinners actually used costumes from Marvel’s canceled Blade movie.
If you’re a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the project advanced to a point where costumes were even designed, so feel free to explore “Sinners” and catch a glimpse of what might have been!
What happened?
In the 1930s-era setting, both the concept of sinners and the abandoned Blade project by Marvel share a common theme: they both include vampires in their narratives. It is worth noting that Michael B. Jordan, Ryan Coogler, and Hailee Steinfeld are all associated with Marvel Studios.
In an interview with Screen Crush, the producer of Sinners, Sev Ohanian, shared that Marvel allowed them to buy the Blade costumes.
According to Ohanian, costume designer Ruth Carter had been preparing for the filming of “Blade”, but unfortunately, the project didn’t move forward. Interestingly, at one stage, that film was intended to explore a time period similar to that depicted in “Sinners”. Remarkably, Carter already had a storage filled with clothes suitable for that era, and when they suddenly needed to start production right away, Marvel graciously allowed them to purchase the project at an affordable price.
The producer mentioned that many of the background actors in the series “Sinners” were dressed in costumes intended for “Blade”, while the main actors wore their original outfits instead.
What’s next for Marvel’s Blade?
Marvel’s movie, Blade, has yet to be given a specific release date. It was initially unveiled at Comic-Con all the way back in 2019.
According to reports, earlier stories centered on Blade and his daughter, who was planned to take over from him in the MCU after Endgame. However, it’s said that Mahershala Ali disagreed with this narrative, which may be why the Blade project hasn’t yet started.
According to recent reports, it’s being speculated that the upcoming Blade movie will be set in contemporary times now that Marvel has sold the costumes.
Mahershala Ali stars in Jurassic World: Rebirth, which is now playing in theaters.
During the movie promotion, the two-time Oscar laureate was inquired about Blade, to which he responded, “Reach out to Marvel. I’m all set and eager. Make sure they know I’m eager.
