Russo Brothers to Executive Produce ‘Rambo’ Prequel — Final Talks Underway with Star Set to Play Young Rambo

Okay, so I just heard some cool news! The Russo brothers – you know, the guys who directed those massive Avengers films? – are getting involved with a new John Rambo movie as executive producers. Their company, AGBO, is backing it. Apparently, this isn’t a sequel, but a prequel – meaning it’s going to show us how Rambo became the legend we all know. I’m really intrigued to see what they do with his origin story!

Jalmari Helander, the director of Sisu, is set to direct a new Rambo film, and Noah Centineo is close to being cast as a young John Rambo. Lionsgate has acquired the rights to distribute the film worldwide and will begin selling it to international buyers at the American Film Market.

Charlotte Koh, a top executive at Lionsgate, praised AGBO and its leaders, Anthony and Joe Russo, calling them highly creative storytellers who are consistently producing exciting and emotionally resonant action movies that audiences worldwide are enjoying.

Filming is scheduled to start in Thailand in early 2026. The movie is set during the Vietnam War and will show how Rambo became the iconic soldier Sylvester Stallone portrayed in the 1980s.

Angela Russo-Otstot and Michael Disco will produce the film, working with Kevin King Templeton, Les Weldon, and Jonathan Yunger from Millennium Media. Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani wrote the script.

Russo-Otstot expressed her enthusiasm for the project, explaining that Rambo is a legendary and instantly recognizable action movie hero, and she’s thrilled to delve into the story of how that reputation began.

The Russo brothers, known for directing several Marvel films, just released The Electric State on Netflix. They’re currently developing the next two Avengers movies, Doomsday and Secret Wars, for Marvel Studios. Through their production company, AGBO, they’ve also produced action films like The Gray Man and the Extraction series.
