Okay, so I just heard some really exciting news! They’re making a new take on A Christmas Carol, and it’s called Ebenezer. Even better, Johnny Depp is playing Scrooge! Paramount is backing the film, and it’s currently scheduled to hit theaters on November 13, 2026. I’m already marking my calendar – this could be a really interesting version of a classic story.
The film’s cast has grown to include several popular actors, such as Rupert Grint, Daisy Ridley, Sam Claflin, Charlie Murphy, Arthur Conti, and Ellie Bamber.
Joining Andrea Riseborough, Ian McKellen, and Tramell Tillman in the cast is Tom Felton. While the studio hasn’t revealed much about the characters, reports suggest Felton will play Bob Cratchit, the faithful employee of Scrooge.
Ti West, a director known for creating suspenseful and unsettling films, helms the new movie. Nathaniel Halpern wrote the screenplay, and Emma Watts is the producer. Stephen Deuters, Jason Forman, Adam Bohling, and David Reid are serving as executive producers. Paramount studio sources have confirmed these details.
This retelling of Charles Dickens’ classic story centers on a grumpy man confronted by ghosts representing his past, present, and future, forcing him to reflect on his life. It’s presented as a spooky ghost story set in historic London, emphasizing themes of forgiveness and getting a fresh start.
This isn’t the only fresh adaptation of the beloved tale currently being made. Warner Bros. is also developing its own version, to be directed by Robert Eggers and starring Willem Dafoe as Scrooge. This marks the second significant ‘A Christmas Carol’ project to be announced in 2023.
