As a die-hard fan who has followed the Batman saga since the days of Adam West, I must say that the recent rumors about Robert Pattinson’s Batman being integrated into the DCU are both intriguing and worrying. On one hand, it’s exciting to imagine the Dark Knight gracing multiple universe-spanning stories, but on the other, the thought of creative chaos and potential mistakes brings back memories of the DCEU’s not-so-glorious past.
It’s common knowledge by now that Matt Reeves’ film, “The Batman,” was an outstanding hit. Despite being set in a different universe compared to the DCEU at the time, its introduction of another Batman character suggests it may not be connected to James Gunn’s upcoming DC Universe.
Despite initial concerns that Matt Reeves’ standalone series might be unaffected by DC’s recent changes, it seems those worries were unwarranted as Reeves is now fully embracing the chance to craft his unique vision. On the other hand, James Gunn will focus on developing his own take on the character, while Robert Pattinson’s version remains under Reeves’ guidance. As a fan, I’m excited about the diversity these approaches will bring to our beloved DC universe!
As a die-hard gamer, I’ve heard some buzz around the grapevine that the bigwigs at Warner Bros are keen on cashing in on the triumph of Batman (and The Batman), and it seems the CEO is quite insistent that Robert Pattinson takes up the mantle as the primary DC Universe Batman, disregarding Gunn’s original blueprint.
According to reports from trusted source Jeff Sneider, there’s a rumor circulating that WB CEO David Zaslav is advocating for more Batman content within the DC Universe. Given the success of ‘The Batman’, Batman’s enduring popularity as DC’s main character, the positive reception of ‘The Penguin’, and Batman’s recent star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, this rumor seems plausible.
Gunn’s strategy to rival the MCU is a long-term goal, but Zaslav aims to establish himself as a serious competitor more quickly. According to Sneider, this explains why he is urgently promoting Pattinson’s Batman as the main Batman for the DCU, although there are challenges in this endeavor.
Initially, it’s been made clear by Gunn that Pattinson’s Batman will not be linked to the Caped Crusader of the DCU, who has yet to be cast and is set to debut in The Brave and the Bold. Although it’s theoretically possible to merge Pattinson’s Batman into the DCU at a later stage, the universe he inhabits belongs to Reeves, and it seems unlikely that (1) Reeves would relinquish creative control over his world, which could conflict with Gunn’s distinct vision, and (2) Gunn would be able to execute his vision for the DCU under such conditions.
Another point to consider is whether Robert Pattinson would be willing to participate in every DC Universe project, given his schedule. Additionally, since The Brave and the Bold is being helmed by Andy Muschietti, it seems unlikely that Reeves’ vision for the project would remain unchanged.
It seems Zaslav is advocating for more Batman, but given what’s currently happening and considering that WB wouldn’t want to repeat a mistake that could jeopardize the DCU before it officially starts (like what happened with the DCEU), it’s quite improbable. However, history has shown us that unexpected decisions do happen sometimes… so let’s wait and see! Stay tuned for all the latest news and updates!
