Rosanna Arquette (66) Criticizes Quentin Tarantino for Racist Language in Films

Rosanna Arquette has criticized Quentin Tarantino‘s consistent use of racial slurs in his movies. In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, the 66-year-old actress said she believes Tarantino’s repeated use of the N-word is unacceptable, even though she recognizes the importance of their 1994 film, Pulp Fiction, and its cultural impact. She was discussing her career when she shared her thoughts on the director’s work.

Patricia Arquette praised the film as a classic, noting her role as the wife of a drug dealer. However, she now strongly disapproves of the director’s continued use of a racial slur. She stated she ‘hates’ the word and believes director Quentin Tarantino has been unfairly excused for using it, calling it ‘racist and creepy,’ not artistic. Tarantino’s frequent use of the slur has long been controversial, especially in his historical films. For example, his 2012 film Django Unchained, about a Black man seeking justice during slavery, used the slur around 110 times. His subsequent film, The Hateful Eight (2015), contained it roughly 47 times, prompting ongoing debate about whether such language is necessary in filmmaking.

Despite recent criticism, Samuel L. Jackson continues to strongly support director Quentin Tarantino, having appeared in six of his nine films. Jackson consistently explains that the often-controversial dialogue accurately portrays the characters and the eras they live in. In the documentary QT8: The First Eight, he stated that Tarantino’s writing and the way his characters speak are always authentic.

Meanwhile, actress Patricia Arquette revealed she never received any profit-sharing payments from the huge success of Pulp Fiction. She specifically blamed producer Harvey Weinstein, claiming, “Everyone else made money from the film, but I didn’t.”

Beyond her commentary, Arquette has been consistently working and appearing in films this year. She recently starred in the mockumentary The Moment, a satirical take on the world of pop music and the pressures of the industry, alongside Charli XCX. She’s also been attending film premieres, including a screening of Dracula in Los Angeles in February.

Meanwhile, Tarantino remains a major figure in Hollywood, known for directing films with stars like Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Uma Thurman, and Kurt Russell. Though everyone is eager to know what he’ll do next, he’s cemented his place in film history with a unique, often shocking, and always memorable directorial style that still generates discussion over thirty years after his first film. Arquette continues to take on new roles, with several projects currently in the works.
