As a long-time fan of X-Men, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia mixed with excitement when it comes to the return of Rogue, voiced by the talented Lenore Zann. Her insights into her character and the current state of the world are both profound and thought-provoking. It’s heartening to see an actor who cares deeply about their role and the message it conveys.
1997’s X-Men adaptation proved to be a triumph for Marvel in spite of its challenges and deviations from the comic book series’ established lore. One could attribute its success to various factors, though we shall not delve into them here. Instead, let’s focus on the captivating narrative and exceptional animation style that harkened back fond memories for fans of the original series due to their striking similarities to the source material.
Of course, the popular show is set to carry on, and at present, we’re eagerly anticipating the arrival of its second season. Fans are equally thrilled and apprehensive to discover the extent of Disney’s influence on Beau DeMayo’s initial concepts, and how distinct this new season may turn out to be.
As we hold off, let us excite you with a significant interview from none other than Rogue‘s voice actress, Lenore Zann. She shared insights on her comeback to the series and disclosed intriguing details about her character, which we’re eager to pass along to you!
The interview you’re about to read was conducted by our friends at NPN, and it turned out to be quite an extensive discussion. While we’ll be highlighting the most captivating segments for you right here, we strongly recommend reading the entire interview for a comprehensive understanding, as it offers valuable insights for fans of the series and Rogue.
What’s it like for you returning to this role and carrying on this tale, having 27 years passed since the initial series concluded?
You: It’s truly astonishing! After all, not every actor gets the chance to portray a superhero, and even more so, to do it twice throughout their career, separated by about 27-30 years.
It’s a bit bizarre yet somehow fitting that this show is returning at this specific moment. My character seems incredibly powerful, which resonates deeply given the current state of the world where we face immense danger, extreme right-wing ideologies that are causing harm to so many people, and political figures who are attempting to turn back the clock and strip rights that various communities, such as racialized and LGBTQ+ communities, have fought for over years.
It’s really sad to see that humanity is once again at each other’s throats and I think that it’s time for the X-Men to make a reappearance so it’s perfect timing.
Following our heart-to-heart conversation regarding his comeback, I couldn’t help but inquire about the intricate details of Zann’s take on Rogue’s romantic affairs.
(NPN): I love that and it’s a great way to look at the show – I have more of a fun question that folks fight about every day, they want to know… Remy or Magneto?
Zann’s Thoughts: It seems to me that Remy and Rogue are destined for each other, much like Romeo and Juliet. However, their love story unfolds on an entirely different plane or in a different reality. Love, in its truest form, remains unchanged whether the beloved is alive or not. I understand that everyone, including myself, is heartbroken over Remy’s situation. But let’s remember, this is just a narrative. Let it unfold and keep your faith.
Additionally, she was queried about the possibility of Rogue appearing in further Marvel animated productions. Here’s her response:
As a gamer, I was wondering if you might consider introducing my character, Rogue, into any other animated series you’re working on in the future. For instance, there’s an upcoming Spider-Man series, Eyes of Wakanda, and What If season 3. Would it be something you’d be interested in exploring for Rogue, or perhaps for any new projects that might arise?
Absolutely, what you’re suggesting sounds exciting! It would be thrilling to see it as a full-length movie, either live-action or animated, just like the 90’s Spidey show, something I’ve always enjoyed.
We had a chance to watch “X-Men ’97” on the big screen, and it was fantastic! The first episode really got me hooked, and although I haven’t decided yet, I might catch it again at El Capitan Theater or Hollywood Theatre. The fans went absolutely wild over it, which makes me believe that an X-Men animated feature film would be a massive hit. Here’s hoping that we get to see one someday soon, as I think the audience is now more receptive to such ideas.
Finally, she provided the fans with a Season 2 update:
(NPN): Have you started recording your lines for Season 2?
Gamer Here: Absolutely! I’ve completed them alright, and we can’t resist tweaking ADR now and then, but yes, I’ve recorded my lines and I’m thrilled about it. This script is extraordinary, trust me, you’re going to adore it, much like the previous one, it’s simply fantastic.
