As a lifestyle connoisseur, I, Robert Pattinson, find myself taken aback by the ongoing discussions revolving around the impact of the Twilight saga on the vampire genre. It’s been close to two decades since the franchise first graced our screens, and yet, it continues to be a hot topic. I can’t help but wonder how such a conversation persists, given the wealth of new content that has emerged since then.
During an interview with GQ Spain (as reported by Varity), the actor from Breaking Dawn stated that certain allegations have been recurring, but he considers them outdated. He expressed that it’s not beneficial to rehash the impact of a movie that was released nearly two decades ago.
Pattinson expressed, “It never fails to amuse me when people continue saying, ‘Wow, Twilight really messed up the vampire genre for good.’ Don’t you move on? Over two decades have passed since then! It’s quite surprising.
Robert Pattinson, widely recognized as a global sensation for his portrayal of Edward Cullen, the vampire character in The Twilight Saga, has never been shy about expressing his thoughts on the series that catapulted him to stardom.
He consistently showed a blend of feelings concerning the response the series garnered. Previously, he suggested that those who critiqued the movie hadn’t actually watched it, instead forming opinions from assumptions and secondhand criticisms.
As a devoted fan who follows closely, I must admit that upon witnessing the unprecedented success and worldwide impact of the series, I found myself questioning the peculiarity of the Twilight saga’s narrative, even as an ardent Batman actor.
Speaking about the unexpected surge in popularity of the show, Pattinson expressed that he found the plotline surprising. During his interview with Variety’s Actors on Actors series in 2019, he described the series as romantic but in an unusual manner. He stated that it wasn’t a traditional love story like The Notebook.
In his interpretation, Twilight is portrayed as an account of fixation, where the main character yearns for affection towards something far more sinister than usual. It’s not your ordinary love narrative; rather, it delves into a complex case of fixation that encompasses feelings for something profoundly wicked.
Pattinson jokingly commented, “The Notebook is incredibly sweet, emotional, and poignant. Twilight, on the other hand, is about a guy who falls in love with a girl and…oh, not literally eats her, but craves her blood instead.
In a statement, the actor from Remember Me admitted, “I felt certain scenes were quite romantic. However, overall, I found the plot to be peculiar. While promoting the film, I wasn’t shy about expressing my doubts and odd feelings as I worked on it.
Robert Pattinson has expanded his acting repertoire significantly since his Twilight days, taking on various roles that showcase his versatility and cementing himself as a notable Hollywood actor. His upcoming significant project is titled Mickey 17, a sci-fi film under the direction of Oscar-winning director Bong Joon Ho. The movie’s stellar cast includes Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo, and Steven Yeun. This film will hit theaters on March 7th, 2025.
