John Owen reveals he had a ‘mental breakdown’ while filming Unstable with Rob Lowe
At a recent interview on Andy Cohen’s Radio Andy, John Owen revealed that working alongside his father Rob Lowe in their successful show Unstable was initially harmful for his mental well-being. In this production, Owen portrays the fictional character of Rob Lowe’s son. He went on to describe how “just two weeks” into filming the first season, he suffered a “mini mental breakdown.”
I couldn’t believe it when he announced he was leaving the set and headed to his trailer, muttering under my breath, “Oh no, not again.” I wanted to break free from his shadow and establish my own identity as an actor. And now, here I am, sharing the spotlight with him as a costar. The surreal moment hit me when I saw our faces side by side on a promotional poster for “The Grinder” movie – it was a stark reminder that we’d be doing press tours together.

He expressed, “My father’s presence in my life won’t last forever. It’s a blessing that we can experience this journey together. Additionally, working in the entertainment industry is no easy feat.”
