At a recent interview on Andy Cohen’s Radio Andy, John Owen revealed that working alongside his father Rob Lowe in their successful show Unstable was initially harmful for his mental well-being. In this production, Owen portrays the fictional character of Rob Lowe’s son. He went on to describe how “just two weeks” into filming the first season, he suffered a “mini mental breakdown.”

I couldn’t believe it when he announced he was leaving the set and headed to his trailer, muttering under my breath, “Oh no, not again.” I wanted to break free from his shadow and establish my own identity as an actor. And now, here I am, sharing the spotlight with him as a costar. The surreal moment hit me when I saw our faces side by side on a promotional poster for “The Grinder” movie – it was a stark reminder that we’d be doing press tours together.

He shared how it felt like a wave of understandings hit him, and he vividly recalled phoning his representatives right after, finding it amusing. His first action was to contact them.

John Owen shared that his representatives provided him with a refreshed outlook, emphasizing the importance of being thankful for several reasons. He expressed, “My father’s presence in my life won’t last forever. It’s a blessing that we can experience this journey together. Additionally, working in the entertainment industry is no easy feat.”

Rob Lowe gushed about working with his son John Owen in Unstable

In an earlier conversation with Variety, Rob Lowe discussed his collaboration with his son on the show “Unstable.” He expressed great pride in this experience, attributing it to the fact that he was able to observe and be impressed by his son’s exceptional writing abilities.

Lowe expressed that having his son with him on set, both as an actor and co-producer, was incredibly beneficial for him. He explained, “It’s wonderful to have someone who shares my perspective, has the same goals and desires as I do – it’s like having an extra mind at work on the production.”

In the meantime, starting August 1, 2024, Netflix will release the second season of Unstable. This new installment introduces Rob Lowe, John Owen, Sian Clifford, Rachel Marsh, Emma Ferreira, Aaron Branch, and Fred Armisen, alongside other notable actors to the series.
