This multitalented queen of pop and silver screen has recently opened up about her precious brood, and here’s an intriguing tidbit: The individual who bestowed the moniker “Riot” upon her youngest bundle of joy is none other than… drumroll please… Rihanna herself! Yes, you heard it right. The bad gal has a soft spot for a little chaos, and it seems that spirit runs in the family too!
Speaking with Harper’s Bazaar, Rihanna revealed that Pharrell Williams came up with the idea for her business’s name.
According to the Diamonds artist, he chose that name for us because he believed it would suit a girl, as he had come across something online suggesting so.
Regarding Williams, Rihanna commented that he is more than just superficial. “He doesn’t limit his thoughts to mere surface level; instead, he delves deep into history and context,” said the We Found Love singer, speaking about Pharrell Williams.
It’s important to understand that the name Riot was chosen due to a significant musical bond shared by the parents of Riot Rose and Williams.
For those unfamiliar, artist A$AP Rocky, who is Rihanna’s child’s father, teamed up with Cash Money rapper on the track titled “Riot (Rowdy Pipe’n)”. Remarkably, this collaboration dropped in July 2023, just under a month before their song’s release date. In this track, A$AP Rocky references his relationship with Rihanna, referring to her as his spouse.
It’s not the first occasion where Pharrell Williams has linked a child’s name to one of his songs. The track “Rocket’s Theme” from the movie Despicable Me is actually named after his son, Rocket Ayer Williams, born in 2008.
Furthermore, not just A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams also worked together with Rihanna on the 2017 song “Lemon,” along with their band N.E.R.D.
In the year 2020, Rihanna and her partner, Rocky, started their journey as a couple. By August 2023, they were blessed with a child named Riot Rose. Prior to that, in May 2022, they had another addition to their family, a son they called RZA.
