Rigetti: A Quantum of Disappointment

So, this Rigetti Computing (RGTI 9.04%) thing. Everyone was piling in last year, like it was going to suddenly start printing dividends. Quantum computing! The future! And now? It’s down 75% from its peak. 75%! It’s like they forgot that companies actually need to, you know, make money. I mean, I’m a dividend hunter, not a miracle worker.

This week alone, another 15.4% gone. According to those people at S&P Global Market Intelligence, which, frankly, always feels a little… presumptuous. Like they know something I don’t. And usually, they don’t.

The Analyst’s Sin

Apparently, some analyst at TD Cowen, a Krish Sinkar, downgraded the stock. Downgraded! Like it wasn’t obvious already. He thinks investors got “ahead of themselves.” Ahead of themselves! It’s not about being ahead, it’s about basic financial sanity. He also thinks their 2027 projections are… ambitious. Ambitious? That’s putting it mildly. It’s a fantasy. A complete and utter fantasy. And everyone just assumed it would magically happen.

They made $1.9 million in revenue last quarter. $1.9 million! And they were valued at nearly $5 billion. Okay, it’s down to something closer to $18 billion, but still! It’s like pricing a perfectly good bagel at $500. People are just throwing money at anything with the word “quantum” attached. It’s madness. Sheer, unadulterated madness.

And the Rigetti management admits most of the value won’t materialize until after 2030. After 2030! So, you’re telling me I have to wait another seven years just to see if this thing has a pulse? I need income now, not in a decade. It’s like they’re deliberately trying to irritate me. And the stock is finally starting to reflect that reality, which, frankly, is long overdue. They talk about this powerful platform for businesses and universities. Fine. But where are the dividends? Where’s the return on investment? It’s just… infuriating.

Quantum computing might be the future, sure. But I’m a dividend hunter. I’m looking for present value, not some hypothetical breakthrough in the distant future. There’s plenty of time to pick winners and losers. And right now, Rigetti looks distinctly like a loser. A very, very frustrating loser.
