As a dedicated fan who has followed the anime industry through its ups and downs, I must say that this latest leak of entire episodes from several major shows is disheartening. It’s like being given a sneak peek at a delicious meal only to find it spoiled before you can truly savor it.
In the realm of anime productions, it’s not unusual to encounter plot or cast reveals prematurely. However, this week saw a significant breach as entire episodes of several prominent series were illegally distributed. Among those affected were the first episode of Re:Zero Season 3, along with shows like Terminator Zero, Dandadan, and Rama ½. This leak is among the more substantial incidents the anime industry has faced recently.
Initial reports about the leaks emerged on a platform once known as Twitter, along with links to various public forums such as 4chan and BitTorrent. These leaked episodes have poor quality, featuring watermarks and timestamp, but until the official episodes become available, it’s hard to verify if they are authentic production episodes.
Leaks, initially confined to the start and finish of various animes, eventually grew to encompass entire episodes. Now, all episodes for the anime series “Terminator Zero” have been illegally distributed. Originally slated for a Netflix release on August 29, 2024, this series has unfortunately been affected by leaks, with similar occurrences happening with shows like “Dandadan” and “Ranma ½,” each having at least four episodes leaked prematurely.
In addition to these animated series, the entire film “Mononoke: Phantom of the Rain” was similarly affected. The well-known Ranma ½ was initially planned to debut at Anime NYC 2024 on October 5th, 2024, globally. The first three episodes of Dandadan were intended for release in September this year.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m thrilled to share that among all Crunchyroll projects, it’s Re:Zero Season 3 that has been impacted by leaks thus far. This captivating series is inspired by the Japanese light novel series penned by Tappei Nagatsuki and beautifully illustrated by Shin’ichirō Ōtsuka. The story revolves around Subaru Natsuki, a recluse who finds himself mysteriously transported to another world.
Although some fans might be thrilled about obtaining early screenings of the shows, it’s frequently the creators and production companies who bear the brunt of the fallout. Given that Mononoke the Movie: Phantom in the Rain hasn’t been distributed internationally yet, the studio stands to lose significantly due to the film being illegally uploaded online.
A disappointing development is that all episodes of Terminator Zero have been illegally released online. So far, no studio has made a public statement about these leaks. Notably, voice actor Stephane Sheh has asked fans via X to refrain from watching the leaked versions. Instead, we ask our readers to show their support for the creators by waiting for the official broadcast of each episode. Keep checking back here for the latest news in the world of anime!
