Resident Evil Reboot: From Zach Cregger to Studios Bidding for Horror Entry, All Updates We Know So Far

One exciting piece of news for fans is that Resident Evil, one of our long-standing favorites in the entertainment world, be it the game or the movie series, is being rebooted once more.

In this instance, Zach Cregger is involved in the project, taking on both writing and directing duties. Notably, at least four production studios are competing for the right to produce the project and bear its label.

Two of these are Warner Bros. and Netflix, as per sources and reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

I’m excited to share that I’ll be part of a team where Constantin Film takes the lead in producing this rebooted project, collaborating with PlayStation Productions. For those who may not be aware, Constantin Film has been holding the screen rights for the Resident Evil film franchise since the late 1990s.

It’s also indicated that Shay Hatten, known for working on notable productions like John Wick: Chapter 4 and Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, is collaborating with Cregger in writing the screenplay.

The outlet implies that the film studio intends to achieve a major, financially successful premiere, largely due to Zach Cregger’s success following the 2022 cult sensation, “Barbarian,” which has garnered significant praise.

If you’re not acquainted, Creggor started off as an actor and comic, but later astonished everyone by his exceptional directing skills.

2002 saw the debut of the first Resident Evil movie, featuring Milla Jovovich. This film, based on a Umbrella Corporation mishap, spawned five additional sequels. More recently, the franchise was rebooted, with Kaya Scodelario taking the lead in “Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City”.
