It’s possible that Resident Evil 6 could be coming to modern gaming systems, as suggested by its recent rating by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) on ‘Xbox Series’. This might imply an upcoming port.
First introduced in 2012 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Resident Evil 6 has since been adapted for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Now, due to backward compatibility, it’s playable on modern consoles. Yet, a tailored version specifically for the Xbox Series X/S, and potentially the PlayStation 5, might offer improved graphics and performance.
Presently, the ESRB’s listing only includes the Xbox Series, and there’s no mention of the PS5. This could be a temporary oversight, as the rating process might not have been completed for other consoles yet. If the game is indeed ported to additional platforms, it should include all previously released downloadable content (DLC), much like the 2019 Nintendo Switch version did.
In Resident Evil 6, there are four unique storylines, each focusing on separate characters: Leon Kennedy, Chris Redfield, Jake Muller, and Ada Wong. The game is recognized for its action-based gameplay, marking a change from the survival horror style that was once central to the series. This transition sparked a variety of opinions among both players and reviewers.
Despite the ESRB rating hinting at an upcoming launch, Capcom hasn’t officially confirmed a current-generation version of Resident Evil 6. In the meantime, gamers can play the game on contemporary systems using backward compatibility.
