Report Claims Apple Earned $200 Million from ‘Severance’

It appears that Lumon Industries is helping Apple TV+ maintain its financial health. The long-awaited second season of Severance premiered last Friday, and recent figures from Parrot Analytics (as reported by Deadline) indicate that the first season generated over $200 million for Apple.

As a cinephile analyzing the global streaming landscape, I’ve come to appreciate the ingenious Content Valuation system employed by Parrot. This innovative tool correlates viewer interest with subscriber expansion and financial returns. Moreover, it meticulously gauges the worth each production contributes to streaming platforms worldwide.

In contrast to other successful Apple productions, the series Severance has managed to maintain its own level of success. As per Parrot’s data, the show Slow Horses generated approximately $184.8 million in the same timeframe as Severance‘s first season. On the other hand, The Morning Show accumulated a significant sum of $299.4 million, yet took longer to achieve this. However, it’s important to note that the standout performer among these is undeniably Ted Lasso, which has reportedly amassed an impressive total of $609.4 million from Q3 2020 to Q3 2024.

According to Parrot’s analysis, it’s worth noting that the series “Severance” has performed exceptionally well in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, as well as in Latin America, when it comes to gaining new viewers or subscribers.

The structure of the show, where new episodes are released weekly, leaves viewers eagerly anticipating their next taste of characters Mark S, Helly R, and Mr. Milchick. Brandon Katz, a Senior Entertainment Strategist at Parrot, noted that “Severance” fits perfectly with Apple’s upscale brand image and continues to offer value even after the final episode.

Approximately 50% of the show’s initial season earnings were generated by viewers catching up on episodes in the year after the finale ended. This could explain why Apple continues to opt for a weekly release format during the second season.

Katz additionally pointed out that the excitement surrounding “Severance” before Season 2’s release is on par with well-known series such as “Cobra Kai”, “The Mandalorian”, and “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”. This positions “Severance” for a successful second season, possibly taking over from where “Ted Lasso” left off.

In the second season of “Severance,” starring Adam Scott, Patricia Arquette, and John Turturro, we find ourselves continuing from a shocking cliffhanger: Mark’s wife, who was thought to be deceased, is revealed to be none other than his severed colleague, Ms. Casey. Both seasons have earned high praise from critics, but Apple has yet to confirm or deny the reports by Parrot regarding this intriguing plot twist.
