In her years at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, she met director John Cassavetes and eventually married him in 1954. Their relationship lasted until his death on February 3, 1989.

They’ve collaborated on numerous productions together, with projects such as A Child Is Waiting, Machine Gun McCain, Faces, Minnie and Moskowitz, Two-Minute Warning, A Woman Under The Influence, Opening Night, Gloria, Tempest, and Love Streams being part of their shared portfolio.

Three children were born to this couple, among them being Nick Cassavetes, Alexandra ‘Xan’ Cassavetes, and Zoe Cassavetes. Like their parents, each of these offspring also pursued careers in the entertainment industry.

In 1974, I received my initial Academy Award nomination for a film titled “A Woman Under Influence,” which was masterfully directed by none other than my beloved husband. That same year, I also claimed my first Golden Globe for the very same role. Later on, another Golden Globe award found its way into my collection for my remarkable performance in “The Betty Ford Story.” According to various sources, throughout my career, I had amassed a total of eight nominations for the prestigious Golden Globe Awards.

In the final collaboration with her spouse, Rachel from The Notebook undertook the role of Gloria. Tragically, he departed in 1989 following this production. Remarkably, she earned a second Academy Award nomination and yet another nod for a Golden Globe for her work on this project.

She didn’t win that one; instead, she claimed her first Emmy award for Outstanding Actress in a Miniseries or Movie, thanks to her role in The Betty Ford Story. Throughout her illustrious career, she amassed eight Emmys in total. Later on, she graced numerous landmark productions such as Another Woman, Love Streams, and Hysterical Blindness.

According to the Wall Street Journal, actor-turned-businessman Robert Forrest began a relationship with his longtime friend, who was previously a couple. This duo later got married in the year 2012.

2015 saw Rowland receiving an Honorary Academy Award at the 7th Annual Governors Awards ceremony. During her heartfelt speech, she acknowledged and thanked her late husband for his significant impact on her film career. Remarkably, in the same year, while chatting with the Hollywood Reporter, Rowland revealed her decision to step away from acting.
