Do you remember Katherine Heigl, who played Izzie Stevens on Grey’s Anatomy? Now 47 years old, she’s enjoyed a successful career in Hollywood, and her time on the popular ABC show was key to her becoming well-known.
Katherine Heigl began her career in entertainment when she was very young. At the age of nine, her family submitted her photos to a modeling agency, hoping to launch her career.

She quickly found success with Wilhelmina Models, landing catalog work for stores like Sears and Lord & Taylor. Her first national commercial was for Cheerios, and she soon transitioned into acting, making her film debut in That Night in 1992. She went on to appear in films including My Father the Hero and Under Siege 2: Dark Territory. Even while pursuing acting, she continued to model, gracing the pages of magazines like Seventeen.
Katherine Heigl began her career in the late 1990s and early 2000s with roles in shows and movies aimed at younger viewers. She became known for her part as Isabel Evans in Roswell and appeared in several of the American Pie films, which have collectively earned almost $1 billion worldwide and become a significant part of popular culture. She also demonstrated her range as an actress through TV movies like Wish Upon a Star and The Tempest.

Katherine Heigl’s career took off in 2005 when she started playing Dr. Izzie Stevens on Grey’s Anatomy. The show quickly became a huge hit, and her role brought her widespread fame, positive reviews, and several awards.
I still remember when Katherine Heigl won her Emmy back in 2007 for her work on Grey’s Anatomy – it was a huge moment! She even accidentally dropped an f-bomb on stage, which they quickly cut out for TV, of course. That show really launched her career, though. Suddenly, she was headlining big comedies like Knocked Up and 27 Dresses, and rightfully so – she started earning some serious money and becoming a real box office draw.

Although Katherine Heigl found success on Grey’s Anatomy, her time on the show wasn’t without its difficulties. She spoke out against some of the show’s storylines and even chose not to submit her work for an Emmy in 2008, feeling the material wasn’t strong enough. Combined with her comments about the film Knocked Up, this led to her being labeled as difficult to work with. She later apologized for her statements and explained her perspective. In 2010, she decided to leave Grey’s Anatomy to prioritize her family, marking the end of an important period in her career.
Katherine Heigl’s life both on and off screen has often been in the public eye. She married musician Josh Kelley in 2007, and they now live in Oakley, Utah, with their three children. Beyond acting, Heigl is committed to charitable causes. She started Heigl’s Hounds of Hope, an organization dedicated to rescuing and caring for dogs from shelters with limited resources, and has partnered with groups like the ASPCA and Best Friends Animal Society. She’s also a vocal supporter of adoption, organ donation, and improving the lives of animals.
