The first part of Bridgerton Season 4 is now available on Netflix, bringing viewers back to the glamorous world of Regency London. This season centers on Benedict Bridgerton, played by Luke Thompson, and his search for a captivating woman he met at a masked ball – a story reminiscent of Cinderella. However, fans will notice that Regé-Jean Page, who played the Duke of Hastings, does not appear in these new episodes.
I still miss seeing Regé-Jean Page as the Duke of Hastings! He hasn’t played that role since the first season, and while so many of us were devastated when he left, especially as the show blew up, he’s stood by his decision. I recently came across an old interview where he explained it wasn’t about being worried about being seen as just a romantic lead, but a matter of staying true to what he wanted as an actor. It’s good to know he left for the right reasons, even if it’s a little sad for us fans!
Regé-Jean explained to Vanity Fair that the reason he left Bridgerton was actually quite straightforward, despite the speculation. He simply felt he’d completed the story arc for his character, Simon. He’d agreed to a specific job, fulfilled that commitment, and then moved on to other projects. He believed the story of Simon and Daphne had a natural ending, and he didn’t want to artificially prolong it just because the show was popular. He and the team had finished the story as intended, and he didn’t want to create new storylines just to continue earning a paycheck.
Regé-Jean Page has been very active this year, taking on a variety of roles in both action-packed thrillers and heartwarming romantic films. He recently starred alongside Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett in Steven Soderbergh’s spy thriller, Black Bag, which was released in late 2025. And for those who enjoy his romantic roles, he’ll soon be leading the new romantic comedy You, Me & Tuscany with Halle Bailey.
Though Regé-Jean Page has moved on from the hit show Bridgerton, his career is still taking off, with roles that allow him to explore diverse stories, as he recently explained. He’s captivating audiences whether he’s playing a serious knight in Dungeons & Dragons or a skilled undercover agent in his next thrillers.
Page remains a compelling actor, and while Bridgerton continues to succeed with new characters and storylines, his performance in the first season is still considered a key part of the show’s legacy.
