In May, Amazon Prime Video officially commissioned a prequel for Legally Blonde, titled “Elle.” The series synopsis reveals it will delve into “Elle Woods’ high school years, exploring the life events that molded her into the beloved character we met in the initial Legally Blonde movie.
The TV series originates from creator Laura Kittrell, who takes on the roles of showrunner and executive producer. Reese Witherspoon is also an executive producer alongside Lauren Neustadter via Hello Sunshine. Additionally, Lauren Kisilevsky and Marc Platt will act as executive producers, while Amazon MGM Studios will be responsible for its production.
Reese Witherspoon initially played the lead role in the first Legally Blonde movie, which debuted in 2001 and earned an impressive $140 million worldwide. The sequel came out two years later, while a third film, Legally Blondes, was released as a straight-to-video production in 2009 with Witherspoon serving as a producer instead of the main actress. A Broadway musical version of the story premiered in 2007.
