As a seasoned gamer and comic book enthusiast with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the upcoming Red Hulk solo series is a much-anticipated addition to Marvel’s lineup. Having grown up reading about the original Hulk, I must admit that Thaddeus Ross’ Red Hulk has always intrigued me with his unique blend of military strategy and sheer brute force.
Over time, the world of Hulk has grown beyond just Bruce Banner and his green alter ego. One of the more popular additions to this expanded universe is Thaddeus Ross’ Red Hulk, who will be a significant character in the upcoming Captain America movie. This development has left fans quite excited.
Given those circumstances, we’ve chosen to cover the Red Hulk too, and not from the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s standpoint, but still within the Marvel universe. To clarify, our focus will shift towards a forthcoming comic book set to be released in stores at the beginning of next year.
In this article, we’ll delve into a significant standalone series featuring Red Hulk, a key segment of the larger “One World Under Doom” narrative that has been previously discussed. If you’re curious about what awaits in the Red Hulk solo story, stick around to discover more!
The upcoming standalone series is slated to be part of the “One World Under Doom” saga, where a renowned villain assumes the role of Sorcerer Supreme and rules over all realms. This nine-issue storyline, set to release in early 2025, will undoubtedly have repercussions for other characters too.
Among the figures poised to capitalize on this event is the Red Hulk, who is set to star in his own individual comic series, timed perfectly for release alongside the premiere of “Captain America: Brave New World“, where the character, portrayed by Harrison Ford, will also hold a significant position. This upcoming series, penned by Benjamin Percy and illustrated by Geoff Shaw, will delve into Red Hulk’s imprisonment at the hands of Doom. The official summary provides a glimpse of what’s to come:
In Latveria, Doctor Doom traps Ross and uses his military knowledge for personal gain. Ross’ chance of freedom lies in releasing the immense power of Red Hulk more than ever before, launching a rebellion from within Doom’s Kingdom! To get a sneak peek of what awaits, don’t miss the prelude story by Percy and Shaw in INCREDIBLE HULK #19, which marks a significant milestone as the 800th issue of Hulk!
Deep beneath the earth, General Thunderbolt Ross, held captive by Doctor Doom, is not isolated. A diverse group of brilliant minds – military strategists, criminals, and political figures – have been forcibly assembled in a prison complex, functioning as Doom’s intellectual powerhouse to execute his scheme for world conquest. However, the Red Hulk has a different agenda! This issue also features Machine Man, Deathlok, and other heroes!
Absolutely, the authors must be thrilled to deliver a well-crafted Red Hulk tale at last. While it needs to align with the broader storyline’s events, Percy appears to view this as a chance instead of an obstacle.
Upon hearing about the One World Under Doom event, my thoughts instantly turned to Thunderbolt Ross. Given his unwavering patriotism (particularly his love for red), a global conquest wouldn’t sit well with him. Moreover, his military background—ranging from combat soldier to strategic planner in war rooms, and as a formidable force himself—would likely draw Doom’s attention early on in his plans.
In my story, I’ve imagined a scenario where Ross gets captured by Doom, who then confines him in a ‘Think Tank’ prison designed for war-strategy testing. The narrative starts off in a thrilling book that keeps you on your toes, with relentless action and tension at every turn.
Geoff Shaw is a remarkably talented and relentless artist whom I collaborated with during the WOLVERINE/GHOST RIDER joint project: WEAPONS OF VENGEANCE. Our strategy wasn’t limited to creating an action spectacle, but rather crafting a narrative akin to a war book. Prepare yourself for a sensory onslaught as powerful as the Hulk!

Regarding Shaw, responsible for the artwork in the series, he shared his excitement: “Working on Hulk, my all-time favorite Marvel character, has been a long-cherished dream. With Doctor Doom added to the equation, who is undeniably the ultimate villain, it’s a veritable artistic feast. We can’t wait to blow your minds!
Red Hulk #1 will be available on February 26, 2025 from Marvel Comics.
