Recent Reports Reveal Doctor Doom’s and Reed Richards’ MCU Dynamic Will Stray Far from the Comics

As a long-time Marvel fan who has witnessed the intricate dance of intellect and ambition between Reed Richards and Doctor Doom since the early days of comic books, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment at the news that their dynamic might not unfold as expected in the MCU’s Secret Wars.

In Marvel Comics, Reed Richards and Doctor Doom are renowned adversaries. Both possess prodigious intellects and share a competitive spirit, but their rivalry primarily stems from their differing philosophies. While Reed champions the application of science for human advancement, Doom is driven by power, aiming for control and supremacy.

Despite instances where they’ve worked together, they usually stand on different sides more often than not. The animosity between Doctor Doom and Reed isn’t just a matter of rivalry – it runs far deeper, being deeply personal for Doctor Doom.

Fans have been excitedly anticipating the on-screen interaction between Reed Richards, portrayed by Pedro Pascal, and Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, according to industry insider Alex Perez, this may not unfold as initially planned.

In a Q&A session held in October, Perez discussed with a fan if the dynamic between Reed Richards and Victor Von Doom in the MCU’s “Secret Wars” would have the same emotional resonance as it did in the 2015 Secret Wars comic book series.

He noted that it will be difficult, as Doom and Reed don’t interact significantly in the upcoming Fantastic Four film.

Perez proposed a similar development to the relationship between Thanos and Iron Man in “Infinity War,” where Iron Man was cognizant of an approaching danger yet unaware of its specifics initially, whereas Doom appears to have a more comprehensive grasp of Mr. Fantastic.

From what I understand, this viewpoint mirrors Doctor Doom’s deep-seated affection for Reed Richards that outweighs Reed’s feelings towards him. Moreover, since Doctor Doom is set to debut later in the Multiverse Saga, there might not be sufficient time to develop a substantial bond between these two characters.
