‘Received Some Really Abhorrent Messages’: Lily Allen Slams Media Coverage of Story That She Returned Adopted Puppy After It Ate Her Passport

As a dedicated follower of Lily Allen‘s journey, I can’t help but admire her resilience and dedication to animals, even amidst the storm of misinformation that has recently engulfed her. Having had rescue dogs “pretty consistently throughout” my life, I understand the challenges that come with adopting a troubled pet and the heartbreak that follows when things don’t work out as planned.

More recently, an intriguing event unfolded when British artist Lily Allen countered claims about her giving up a rescue dog for consuming their family’s passports. She accused the media of intentionally misrepresenting her account of events.

On August 25, 2024, Allen expressed her viewpoint and demanded an end to the “truly repugnant messages, including death threats,” in a statement shared on X. Her post drew upon a quote from her Miss Me? podcast where she initially spoke about parting ways with her adopted pet due to that specific incident.

In the latest installment of her podcast, Allen shared her intentions to bring home a Chihuahua-blend dog. This conversation also included reminiscing about her canine companion from the pandemic period, who proved to be quite challenging for her.

Allen recalled the incident and said, “She ate all three of our passports, and they had our visas,” Allen said. “And I cannot tell you how much money it cost me to get everything replaced because it was in COVID, and so it was just an absolute logistical nightmare.”

In a different home resides the singer alongside her spouse, David Harbour. Meanwhile, the children’s father, Sam Cooper, dwells in England. Unfortunately, due to the destruction of their passports by their pet dog, the kids have been unable to visit their dad for extended periods.

Moreover, she saved the dog known as Mary, who had been in a shelter in New York, and our affection for her ran deep. Regrettably, she exhibited serious separation anxiety and instability over time.

It was suggested by the shelter workers that Mary the dog be seen by both a behavioral expert and a professional trainer. However, despite their best efforts, nothing appeared to improve her condition.

Allen continued by expressing that she’s had rescue dogs regularly during her life and has never faced allegations of animal cruelty. Consequently, the past few days have been challenging for her to comprehend. She closed her statement by asking people to refrain from acting on sensationalized articles unless they have thoroughly investigated the facts first.

Currently, Allen finds joy and contentment in her family, particularly her children, though she admittedly has grown distant from her father, actor Keith Allen. In her 2018 memoir titled My Thoughts Exactly, she described him as a “self-saboteur” who struggled to effectively translate his comedic talents into a successful career.
