In the SHE MD podcast on August 6, 2024, Halsey shared a challenging experience from their past. At age 20, while performing at a concert, they experienced a miscarriage. Bravely, Halsey continued with the show, disclosing their hardships and resilience in facing both emotional and physical turmoil.

In light of the events, Halsey characterized their situation as a particularly challenging one, considering the circumstances. They had already initiated a miscarriage prior to the concert and felt obliged to perform regardless. The artist expressed, “I experienced a miscarriage during a performance. The miscarriage started before the show.”

Halsey expressed worry about how the event might impact their career and the high expectations associated with it. They also emphasized the significance of a corporate partner, a larger media entity partner, but most importantly, the thousand children who had been waiting all day to attend the show and see them.

To manage physical unease during their performance, Halsey opted to wear an adult diaper. They shared this: “In the end, I just had to put on an adult diaper.” Despite the challenging situation, they successfully performed for a full 45 minutes. Uncertain if they could have sustained a longer performance due to their limited musical library at that time, Halsey acknowledged.

After the performance, Halsey felt extremely unwell, even vomiting in the parking lot. The aftermath of the event required them to spend an entire night in a hotel, where they recollected spending the time feeling ill and sitting in the bathtub due to excessive bleeding, unsure of what else to do.

Halsey disclosed that the concert had been recorded, and finding time to watch it later proved challenging. They humorously admitted that upon rewatching, they saw themselves as stark white and drenched in sweat. Their voice sounded strange, thicker than they remembered, and they appeared almost unrecognizable.

“As a dedicated fan, I can tell you that I found myself in a lonely corner due to the scarcity of narratives about miscarriage similar to my own experience. It was like, ‘Who can I confide in about this?’ You see, at that point, the tales of miscarriage I had come across were from women who were blissfully married.” – Halsey’s Reflection

After experiencing a miscarriage, Halsey found herself grappling with a variety of emotions such as relief, bewilderment, regret, and sorrow. In simpler terms, they confessed that they had numerous complex feelings following the event. Despite being engrossed in their careers at the time and not feeling ready for motherhood, they still encountered mixed emotions.

Initially, they felt they were too young to handle a pregnancy since they were just twenty years old. Halsey, who later gave birth to son Ender with partner Alev Aydin in July 2021, discussed how this experience broadened their perspective on miscarriage and the scarcity of resources for individuals facing similar circumstances.
