Rapper Tay-K 47 Found Guilty of Murder in 2017 Killing; Jury to Decide His Sentence

On the 14th of April, rapper Tay-K 47 (whose real name is Taymor McIntyre) was judged responsible for a 2017 murder case involving Mark Anthony Saldivar. The jury did not rule him guilty of capital murder, but they did decide on the lesser charge of murder instead. This verdict ignited a brief burst of jubilation in the courtroom, but this excitement was quickly subdued.

McIntyre’s sentencing has yet to be decided, with the jury now tasked with determining the length of his imprisonment, which could span anywhere from 5 to 99 years, according to News4SA’s report.

16-year-old McIntyre initially risked spending his life in prison due to a capital murder charge following Saldivar’s demise. But instead, the jury opted for a less severe accusation – murder. This verdict allows for a sentence ranging from 5 years as the minimum to a maximum of 99 years.

In simpler terms, John Hunter, McIntyre’s lawyer, pointed out that McIntyre was young when the crime occurred and asked the jury to consider the circumstances thoughtfully.

At the trial’s sentencing portion, it was disclosed that McIntyre had a prior conviction. Specifically, McIntyre was found guilty of being an accomplice in a murder case that took place in Fort Worth, Texas. In this instance, McIntyre was given a 55-year prison sentence.

The defense attorney requested the jury to take McIntyre’s age into account and avoid viewing him as beyond redemption. In simpler terms, he was not trying to portray McIntyre as a saint and did not ask for his actions to be forgiven. Instead, he asked them to consider everything in context.

Beyond the confines of the courtroom, McIntyre is generally known for his music, specifically his popular 2017 song titled “The Race.” This track, characterized by McIntyre’s iconic wanted poster, garnered widespread acclaim, reaching a high on Billboard’s Hot 100 and amassing more than 250 million views on YouTube.
