As a devoted fan of the captivating universe that is ‘Harry Potter‘, I can’t help but be drawn in by the thrill of Quidditch matches and the mystery of magical creatures. However, let’s not sugarcoat it – we’ve all had our thoughts on the Hogwarts prefects. Some seemed destined for their roles, while others… frankly, they could have benefited from a bit more guidance. So, just as one would excitedly discuss a beloved book or movie scene with a cherished companion, let’s delve deeper and rank these Hogwarts leaders – from those who left us scratching our heads to the ones who truly earned their gleaming badges.
11. Tom Riddle
Tom’s exceptional intelligence was evident through his outstanding academic record at Hogwarts and his remarkable magical abilities. However, he had a singular focus on the practical application of people, things, and powers, all in pursuit of his personal objectives.
His narrow focus on only immediate concerns and neglect of broader context, irrelevant occurrences, and essential human traits often proved to be a significant flaw that led to many of his failures and ultimately, his downfall.
As a child at Hogwarts and during his early adulthood, Riddle was known for being intelligent, polite, and eager to learn. He had a charismatic personality that allowed him to easily influence others, showcasing his exceptional skills as a manipulator from a young age.
He was viewed by many as both intellectually gifted yet financially struggling, fearless yet impoverished, holding the position of school prefect, and embodying ideal pupil qualities. His exceptional student status had earned him the trust and admiration from his teachers and the patrons at Borgin and Burkes.
Yet, it turned out that these occurrences were orchestrated by him, given his cunning nature, as Dumbledore put it. He faced a sequence of unfortunate incidents during his Hogwarts tenure, but the authorities were unable to definitively connect him to them all.
10. Lucius Malfoy
Lucius was shrewd and cunning when needed, which enabled him to gain the admiration and favor of influential people by showcasing his affluence and prestigious lineage.
Even he held significant influence over Cornelius Fudge, the Minister of Magic. In fact, Lucius’ persistent donations to influential organizations served as bribes to Fudge, allowing him to obtain confidential information, delay legislation, and receive unwarranted benefits and recognition.
Lucius, on the surface, appeared to be a respectable individual. However, beneath this facade, he was a shrewd, ambitious person who climbed social ladders ruthlessly. He had an uncanny ability to sway others, but in private, he was unkind towards people.
He harshly exploited eleven-year-old Ginevra Weasley, attempting to weaken her father in the Ministry and overthrow Albus Dumbledore as Headmaster of Hogwarts. If it hadn’t been for Harry Potter’s intervention, this plan would have led to her downfall.
9. Pansy Parkinson
In a less than kind manner, Pansy consistently teased Gryffindor students and others alike. Though her actions might have stemmed from her feud with Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy, it appeared she enjoyed causing distress among the students just for the fun of it.
In the past, Pansy and Gryffindor’s Parvati Patil appeared to have some form of relationship, marked by mutual respect. However, by their fifth year at school, this connection seemed to lessen or become strained.
Based on her response to Blaise Zabini’s disparaging remark about Ginny Weasley and her friendship with Draco Malfoy, it seemed that Pansy held prejudiced beliefs toward those considered “impure” or non-purebloods, a bias that became more apparent in the lead-up to the Battle of Hogwarts.
8. Draco Malfoy
Draco Malfoy and Pansy Parkinson misused their positions, causing Hermione Granger’s disappointment, by harshly disciplining the first-year students and penalizing those who opposed them.
During his sixth year, Draco diverted his focus from his duties as a prefect to his covert assignment as a Death Eater, targeting Albus Dumbledore for assassination. This dedication resulted in him also missing the gathering of the prefects on the train.
During his fifth year, he was chosen as a monitor for his dormitory and joined the Investigative Team. Towards the end of that academic year, his father was incarcerated in Azkaban following the occurrences at the Department of Mysteries.
As a devoted follower of Lord Voldemort, I was given a crucial assignment to make up for my father’s inadequacies. At the tender age of sixteen, I found myself among the ranks of the Death Eaters. However, over time, I began to question their methods and values. In my youth, I was known as a vengeful and haughty tormentor.
It’s possible that his deceitful behavior, much like Dudley Dursley’s, could have been fostered by excessive pampering from his parents. Yet, from Harry’s perspective, Draco was found to be less appealing than his cousin.
Due to his aristocratic background and wealth, along with being a pure-blood, Draco held himself superior to many others. He often showed contempt towards Muggle-borns, those labeled as traitors, students from Gryffindor, and followers of Harry Potter or Albus Dumbledore.
7. Ron Weasley
Ron was a man who embodied loyalty, bravery, energy, and quick wit, yet occasionally showed signs of immaturity and rudeness. His humor had a biting sarcasm, rough around the edges, which often elicited laughter and relaxation from his friends. At times, he could be argumentative, as demonstrated by his disputes with Hermione, who shared his combative nature but sometimes displayed a harsh demeanor.
From a viewpoint often resembling a typical wizard, Ron’s outlook on various topics diverged frequently from that of Harry and Hermione, who grew up among non-magical people (Muggles). However, Ron tended to be more cognizant of the traditional ways and influences of wizardry.
Ron’s preference for taking the simpler route was clear, as he often avoided putting in a lot of effort. For instance, during his initial year at Hogwarts, instead of carefully choosing books related to Nicolas Flamel, he would randomly select them from the library shelves.
6. Percy Weasley
Percy enforced the rules diligently, believing that Fred and George Weasley’s persistent jokes wouldn’t take them too far. Once, Ron commented, “Percy wouldn’t even recognize a joke if it performed a dance right in front of him, wearing Dobby’s tea cozy.
Typically, Percy came across as pompous and self-centered due to his constant efforts to maintain an air of refinement. He preferred using “Mother” and “Father” instead of “Mum” and “Dad,” which was unusual for him compared to his other siblings.
According to Fred and George, Percy occasionally came across as snobby and distant, yet deep down, he held a strong affection for his family, even if it wasn’t always evident until later. However, he was also known for being overly self-confident, and when he desired something, his focus often shifted towards himself instead of his companions.
5. Hannah Abbott
Hannah frequently displayed symptoms of anxiety and self-doubt, as seen in her Herbology mishaps and her acknowledgments about her skills. She appeared to falter under stressful circumstances. However, it’s worth noting that Hannah was a steadfast friend, demonstrating courage by joining Dumbledore’s Army and ultimately defending Hogwarts.
As she grew older, Hannah chose to devote her time to a profession as a Healer. Additionally, she showed a desire to assume the role of Hogwarts Matron. This implies that she had a deep understanding and proficiency in various forms of healing magic, including spells, potions, and alternative magical treatments.
Moreover, Hannah might be able to cast a spirit-form Patronus, which suggests exceptional magical ability due to the difficulty of the incantation. It’s likely that she honed this skill while being part of Dumbledore’s Army.
4. Bill Weasley
Bill was frequently perceived as “laid-back and unfazed,” but beneath this easygoing facade lay a person who was genuinely dedicated and serious. In his scholastic years, he demonstrated exceptional academic prowess, even holding the position of Hogwarts Head Boy during his final year, which underscored his deep dedication to his studies.
His courage shone through, not just in his career choice as a Curse-Breaker, but also in his resolve to become a member of the Order of the Phoenix, fighting against Lord Voldemort.
As a film enthusiast putting myself in Bill’s shoes, his strong sense of loyalty and compassion shone brightly when I found myself deeply offended by Ron’s decision to split from Harry and Hermione over a petty disagreement.
3. Cedric Diggory
Cedric showed determination similar to Harry’s, as clear when Fleur tried to persuade him using her charm as a Veela, inviting him to the Yule Ball. Yet, he politely refused because he had made other arrangements for that night.
Indeed, Cedric demonstrated remarkable honesty and personal strength, particularly by withstanding the Veela’s charm and adhering to his previous promise.
During a conversation about his Quidditch triumph over Gryffindor with his father, Cedric openly acknowledged that the win was somewhat unfairly gained. The female Gryffindor Chasers characterized him as both “strong” and “reserved,” hinting at his ability to choose his words carefully and speak only when it mattered.
2. Hermione Granger
As a film enthusiast, I’m known for my endless curiosity and relentless drive, a trait that shines brightly in all my academic pursuits and has often seen me lending a helping hand to Harry and Ron on their thrilling escapades.
In her third academic year, the Ministry placed trust in her dedication by giving her a Time-Turner. With this device, she could rewind time and participate in additional classes.
Unlike most wizards, Hermione often relied on logical reasoning to discern facts that others might have overlooked; an example being her deduction of Remus Lupin’s werewolf status.
With great attention to detail, responsibility, and an immaculate sense of style, Hermione often stepped into the role of the calm and composed friend amidst her more spontaneous companions. She managed this task with varying levels of effectiveness. It is clear that these qualities played a significant part in her selection as a prefect during her fifth year at Hogwarts.
Throughout her school years, it was clear that Hermione had a strong preference for organization and strictly followed the rules, which at times outshone her social status among her peers.
1. Albus Dumbledore
As a movie enthusiast, I’d say there are few wizards as formidable as Dumbledore, who seems to embody the wisdom and power that one might associate with Merlin. He moves with an uncanny grace, almost ethereal, always projecting an air of tranquility and unwavering confidence. Rarely does he show strong emotions such as anger or fear, making him a figure of calm and composure in even the most tumultuous situations.
Beyond mere intuition, Dumbledore showed extraordinary empathetic abilities. He penetrated people’s hearts more than just analyzing their personalities. Fundamentally, he acted out of a firm belief in human nature’s inherent goodness.
1) He was exceptionally capable of showing love, often emphasizing to Harry that love is the strongest kind of magic. Dumbledore firmly believed in the basic goodness of individuals and was a passionate supporter of giving chances for redemption.
