Ranking Every One For All User in My Hero Academia: Who Wields the Ultimate Power?

In the anime “My Hero Academia,” the transferable ability known as One For All has been wielded by several characters, with Yoichi Shigaraki and All Might being among the earliest and most notable. The latest bearer of this powerful Quirk is Izuku Midoriya. This extraordinary Quirk stands out as one of the strongest and most esteemed in the series. In this write-up, we will be compiling and evaluating all One For All users according to their overall powers and skills.

9. Yoichi Shigaraki

He was the younger sibling of the powerful antagonist, known as All For One. At first, it was thought he didn’t possess any supernatural abilities, but in truth, he had a Quirk that only allowed him to transfer his power – or lack thereof – to another individual. The Quirk One For All eventually developed from the combination of his initial Quirk and the amassed powers that All For One had compelled upon him.

Despite being weak and ill, he possessed a powerful moral compass and refused to yield when confronted with his brother’s wicked acts. The younger sibling tried to overpower his elder using his recently combined superhuman ability, but lacked the necessary strength. Eventually, he transferred One For All to an unnamed recipient, hoping that one day in the future, someone would be able to bring a permanent end to his brother’s reign of terror. This legacy has been passed down through generations, persisting up until the present time.

As a die-hard film fan, I can’t help but marvel at the intriguing revelations in this anime world. Even after his passing, Izuku’s younger brother, much like the Quirk itself, remains ever-conscious. This unique connection allows him to enlighten Izuku about the origins of One For All, a tale that dates back to its creation.

Intriguingly, Yoichi, much like his formidable brother, shares a striking resemblance in stature with All For One. His silvery hair and piercing green eyes, identical to Izuku’s, are vivid reminders of their shared lineage. These details were subtly unveiled in the captivating “No.1” episode, adding another layer of intrigue to this gripping narrative.

Later in the manga, when Tomura Shigaraki started gaining power, a flashback showed that All For One bestowed Tomura with his name and, upon asking if “Tomura” had any meaning (as it means to cry), All For One replied that “Shigaraki” was his surname. This suggests that the last names of the First Users might have been “Shigaraki” too.

8. Unnamed Second User

In the comic, we’ve often seen the second user of “One For All” lurking in the shadows or appearing from behind. At the end of Chapter 305, the first user extends an invitation for this shadowy figure to join the group chat that all the other users share with Izuku. However, it remains a mystery as to when we’ll see his face in Chapter 310. Interestingly, he is the last among the users to contribute in the reverberations of “One For All,” with the Third User having spoken before him in the narrative.

In my capacity as a devoted fan, I, alongside another two companions, embarked on a mission to liberate Yoichi Shigaraki from the confines All For One had imprisoned him in. Symbolically, I reached out my hand to her, signifying the commencement of a prolonged battle against our former master, All For One.

7. Unnamed Third User

1) In the story, the third member of the One For All has been depicted in a way that suggests he’s hidden or at the back. At the conclusion of Chapter 305, the primary user extends an invitation to this mysterious figure to participate in a conversation with Izuku Midoriya, which is typically reserved for all users. The identity of the Third User remains unknown, as we must wait until Chapter 310 to see his face, much like the Second User.

In the moments preceding the Second Speaker within One For All, it is this individual who voices out. He discusses a time when All For One was at its strongest, a period where he and his forerunner were compelled to make difficult choices in order to persevere in their struggle against All For One.

6. Hikage Shinomori

There are two marks on this character’s face, located near his left eye and extending from the eye to his lower left lip. These injuries occurred due to the prolonged use of his quirk, One For All, which strained his body significantly. Furthermore, he seems to have light-colored hair. In contrast to other users, Hikage opted not to challenge All For One, recognizing the immense power disparity between them. Instead, he spent his time in solitude, focusing on enhancing and strengthening One For All for his eventual heir.

Toward the end of her life, Hikage’s body started deteriorating and scarring over. She used One For All in Daigoro before passing away at age 40 from natural causes. In his notes on past users of One For All, All Might had jotted down details about Hikage, including the cause of her death. It was later discovered that All Might wrote down this information due to his concerns about potential side effects associated with One For All.

Users discovered the truth: Those who utilize One For All while already having a Birth Quirk will find their lifespan reduced due to the strain on the body from the power. It’s unclear how skilled he is with One For All, but it’s possible he combined it with his inherent Quirk, Danger Sense. Excluding Toshinori, Hikage is the individual who has used One For All for the longest period, a total of 18 years.

5. Daigoro Banjo / Lariat

Daigoro is characterized as an exceptionally lively individual, contrasting with other One For All users who tend to be rather composed and subdued. In comparison, Daigoro exhibits a more outgoing demeanor, often cracking jokes even in tense circumstances. At his predecessor’s gathering, he playfully labeled Hikage Shinomori as an eccentric hermit, constantly bothering him during his conversation with Izuku Midoriya.

Despite his lively demeanor, Daigoro exhibits immense determination and takes his role with the One For All seriously. Previously, before his demise, he prevented All For One from seizing the One For All from him. As for Izuku, upon awakening his Black Whip, he was the first to motivate him, urging effort and explaining its functioning.

Through his unique ability, Blackwhip, he could generate whips of dark power from his arms, which were incredibly useful for grabbing onto things and boosting his movement. The Quirk One For All was passed down to him by the fourth user. Additionally, Daigoro’s second Quirk enabled him to store a vast amount of raw energy, significantly improving all his physical capabilities to an extraordinary degree. This led to extraordinary levels of strength, swiftness, dexterity, and resilience.

4. En

In the past, En obtained the One For All quirk from his predecessor, Daigoro Banjo, who was the fifth user. This transfer occurred after En was injured and buried under debris. Injured himself, Daigoro reached out to En, allowing him to inherit the One For One quirk upon consuming Daigoro’s blood. Later on, All For One attempted to seize the One For All from En on two separate occasions but was unsuccessful. As the sixth user, En eventually crossed paths with Nana Shimura. During a confrontation with All For One, En suffered severe injuries and passed some of his hair to Nana, making her the seventh inheritor of the One For All quirk.

In the heart-pounding clash between Izuku and Hitoshi Shinso during the U.A. Sports Championship tournament, I found myself on the edge of my seat as Hitoshi manipulated Izuku with his Quirk, compelling him to step out of bounds for elimination. Despite Izuku’s valiant efforts to defy the command, he was left powerless against the mind control. As he teetered at the ropes, the ghostly figures of En and other past users materialized in Izuku’s mind, offering him a glimmer of hope.

They awaken his inner strength, enabling Izuku to utilize the One For All ability through his fingers. This enables him to break free from hypnosis and emerge victorious in the fight. After several months, no users of this power appeared to Izuku until the night before Joint Training, when En and some former users, including All For One’s younger brother and Nana, manifested in his dreams as real beings, not just shadowy figures.

In the dream, Izuku recalls the memories of the original Quirk user. There’s no spoken word from En, but the first user communicates on behalf of everyone, offering comfort to Izuku by letting him know he isn’t alone in his journey. The dream concludes with all his predecessors gazing at Izuku affectionately, hinting they recognize him as the ninth user and welcoming him warmly.

After the intense Paranormal Liberation War, as I lay unconscious, my spirit was able to communicate with all the fragments of One For All. During this conversation, Daigoro shared an interesting tidbit – on two occasions, En and he narrowly prevented All For One from seizing One For All. Despite his best efforts, All For One was unable to claim the power twice, thanks to their swift actions.

En’s true capabilities remain undisclosed, but given his connection to One For All, it’s reasonable to infer that he was powerful. Yet, he wasn’t mighty enough to vanquish All For One. En had a Quirk called Smokescreen, which enabled him to create smoke, thus rendering him invisible for a specific duration. This Quirk was incorporated into One For All and later utilized by Izuku Midoriya.

The ability known as One For All was bestowed upon him from Daigoro. En’s second special power enabled him to accumulate an enormous amount of raw strength, effectively boosting all his physical capabilities to a degree beyond human limits. This transformation led to astonishing levels of strength, swiftness, dexterity, resilience, and endurance.

3. Izuku Midoriya / Deku

In this story, Izuku – who was born without a Quirk like everyone else in his world – was selected by the renowned superhero All Might to carry on the legacy of One For All, a powerful Quirk that gets passed down. This selection came about when Izuku demonstrated he was worthy by consuming a strand of All Might’s hair. At the start, Izuku could only showcase immense strength at the expense of causing serious harm to himself.

The ten-month preparation for acquiring the Quirk involved shaping him to handle One For All without risking disintegration of his limbs. Despite his inadequate training or mastery, the daunting physical aspect of One For All was the initial hurdle Izuku needed to overcome to command this power effectively. Upon manifesting One For All’s power, Izuku’s body starts radiating light and producing sparks, with vivid red veins coursing through his body.

Initially, he unleashed the full force of One For All to obliterate a massive evil robot with just one strike, but this action left him with a broken arm and legs. Subsequently, Izuku discovered a method to reduce self-harm by focusing the power of One For All separately on his fingers. Later, it was noticed that he started to restrain the strength of One For All against living entities subconsciously.

After that point, Izuku started mastering the art of controlling his Quirk’s strength better. By focusing One For All in specific areas of his body, he can restrict the power of his Quirk to prevent fractures. This skill was evident when he faced Shoto Todoroki during the U.A. Sports Festival.

During the Cavalier Battle and the finals match, he managed to concentrate One For All’s power in his hand to crack Shoto’s defense and landed some blows on him. At that point, All Might thought Izuku could control just five percent of One For All’s power without any adverse effects. Izuku demonstrated that he was prepared to sustain injuries as long as he trusted Recovery Girl could heal him eventually. After the final fight, Recovery Girl expressed she wouldn’t heal self-inflicted wounds anymore, insisting Izuku find another way to utilize her abilities.

2. Nana Shimura

Nana served as both the predecessor and teacher of Toshinori. She was the seventh person to wield the power known as One For All, making her one of very few females to do so. Unfortunately, much about Nana’s proficiency with One For All remains a mystery, other than the fact that she was unable to defeat All For One. However, she did pass on this powerful ability to Toshinori, a young boy she had taken under her wing.

It’s been established that she possessed a unique ability, or Quirk, named Float, which enabled her to fly, hinted by her name. This was made possible through telekinetic power. At present, we don’t have any additional information about the seventh bearer of One For All beyond this detail. Her Quirk played a role in her partnership with her friend, Gran Torino (also known as Sorahiko), who served as Izuku Midoriya’s second mentor.

1. Toshinori Yagi / All Might

Known globally as the iconic hero All Might, Toshinori serves as the eighth bearer, the first one without a superpower, yet exceptionally skilled in wielding it. Throughout his illustrious career, Toshinori was revered as the most potent hero of all time, remaining invincible. Driven by his desire to be a cornerstone of society, he utilized One For All effectively, vanquishing numerous villains, rescuing countless individuals from peril, and earning legendary status.

Toshinori is widely recognized as one of the most renowned or exceptionally skilled users of Quirks. Previously, Gran Torino mentioned that Toshinori quickly got accustomed to using One For All, given his robust physique even without a natural Quirk at birth. He had the ability to regulate and concentrate his power towards any purpose he desired without backlash. Unfortunately, due to a grievous wound inflicted by All For One during their initial encounter, he can only utilize his Quirk for three hours before needing a break.

Regardless of being compelled to utilize One For All, the duration he can employ this Quirk will be reduced as a consequence. After passing the power on to Izuku, his capacity to use One For All significantly decreased over time. In his second confrontation with All For One during the League of Villains Raid, Toshinori drained all residual energy from One For All within his body in order to defeat the villain, leaving him with his original Quirk once more, largely undamaged.

As a devoted cinephile, I find myself reflecting on the once-invincible Toshinori, who, despite his ability to momentarily morph into his muscular form, can no longer sustain it due to the immense strain it places on his body. This unfortunate reality forced him to retire from heroic activities. Now, he’s wholly invested in guiding Izuku in mastering the power of One For All, hoping that one day, Izuku will rise as a great hero in his stead.

Among all the past users, Toshinori is the one who’s had One For All the most extensively. He’s been utilizing it for close to 40 years. Since he’s still alive, the One For All has developed a spectral manifestation of his subconscious that can relay information to its former wielders.
