Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld has criticized Marvel Studios again, this time focusing on the visual effects for Galactus in the new Fantastic Four movie. He posted a clip of Galactus destroying a city on X (formerly Twitter) and bluntly stated the effects looked “so fake” and that Marvel’s visual effects quality has significantly declined.
Ralph Ineson, who voiced and physically portrayed Galactus, playfully dismissed Liefeld’s comment with a simple, “Rent free 😂,” effectively ending the conversation with humor.

Rob Liefeld has publicly criticized Marvel for a long time, and his issues go beyond just the films. He’s specifically called out Kevin Feige, claiming the Marvel Cinematic Universe is “the single biggest fail of 2025” and stating that Feige has lost his touch. This criticism comes as Marvel experiences its weakest box office results in years, and 2025 is shaping up to be the first year since 2011 without a superhero film among the top 10 worldwide releases.

Rob Liefeld’s long-standing issues with Marvel are partly due to feeling personally disrespected. He recently stated he was ending his working relationship with the company that launched characters like Deadpool and Cable.
He expressed feeling left out of the Deadpool & Wolverine premiere, specifically noting that he and his family weren’t included in the afterparty. He shared on his podcast, Robservations, that the omission felt like a deliberate attempt to humiliate and undermine him.
He also noted that some photos of him with the creative team had been removed from Disney’s online press area, but pictures of him with his family were still available. He feels this suggests Marvel no longer appreciates his work.
Rob Liefeld’s issues with Marvel have been ongoing for quite some time. Recently, in 2023, he spoke out against a change to the credits for Wolverine, which gave co-creator credit to editor Roy Thomas. This decision particularly upset the widow of Len Wein, who was the original co-creator of the character.
In June 2024, Rob Liefeld contacted Marvel, asking for more recognition for his work on the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine movie and better opportunities to attend premieres and participate in promotional events. In his email, he pointed out that Marvel historically hasn’t been great at acknowledging creators, stating, “Without the worlds, characters, and ideas we create—specifically Deadpool—there wouldn’t be any films or blockbusters.” He emphasized his creative contribution, adding, “I’m not just a simple solution; I’m the imaginative force behind it all.”
His representatives say Marvel reacted negatively to the email, and Liefeld thinks this led to him not being invited to the afterparty.
Rob Liefeld isn’t holding back when it comes to issues at Marvel, from creative choices to how the company handles its original artists. While Tom Ineson’s reaction suggests not everyone values Liefeld’s opinions, Liefeld remains vocal about his concerns.
