Quentin Tarantino is a celebrated filmmaker known for his innovative movies like Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Now, for the first time, he’s stepping away from directing and into the world of theater. His debut play, The Popinjay Cavalier, will premiere in London’s West End in 2027.

A new play by Quentin Tarantino, called The Popinjay Cavalier, is set to premiere in London in early 2027, according to a recent Variety article. The play is described as a funny, action-packed adventure, and will be produced by Sonia Friedman Productions and Sony Pictures Entertainment.
I’m really excited about a new film called The Popinjay Cavalier! From what I’ve heard, it’s going to be a fun, fast-paced comedy set in 1830s Europe, taking inspiration from those classic swashbuckling adventures we all love. It’s still being developed, but the studio described it as a story full of trickery and disguises, and honestly, that sounds right up my alley!
Quentin Tarantino is well-known as a filmmaker, but many might not realize he’s also acted. Besides appearing in small roles in several of his own films, Tarantino starred in a 1998 Broadway production of Wait Until Dark. He recently shared at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival that he performed in the play and is considering adapting it into a film, potentially as his final movie.
I’m currently writing a play, which will likely be my next project,” he explained. “If the play doesn’t go well, I won’t make a film based on it. But if it’s a success, it could be my final movie.
A theater for The Popinjay Cavalier hasn’t been chosen yet. Details about the cast, creative team, and show dates will be announced soon. You can sign up on the play’s website to be notified when tickets go on sale and get priority booking for this new stage play by Tarantino.
