During a visit to his old workplace, Video Archives, Tarantino called Rio Bravo “another one of the greatest movies ever made.” He especially praised the cast, noting Ricky Nelson’s coolness and Dean Martin’s exceptional performance.

Tarantino highly values acting and often looks to older films like Rio Bravo to learn how to get the best performances from his own actors. While Dean Martin is known for songs like That’s Amore, Tarantino sees him as a powerful actor who could compete with legends like John Wayne.

The director also considers the 1981 film Blow Out to be Brian De Palma’s greatest work, once stating that De Palma is the best director of his generation. He also believes John Travolta gave a career-defining performance in that movie.

The 62-year-old director is currently working towards his tenth and last movie. After canceling his planned film, The Movie Critic, last year, he’s been focusing on other projects.

He recently completed the script for The Adventures of Cliff Booth, a sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which David Fincher is directing for Netflix. Tarantino decided not to direct it himself, as he wants his final film to be something completely new rather than a continuation of a previous story.

Quentin Tarantino is a longtime admirer of De Palma and recently stated that he believes De Palma is a more significant director than many of his more famous contemporaries.

He recently directed a short film for the game Fortnite that included characters from Kill Bill, demonstrating his continued ability to innovate and surprise viewers.
