Quentin Tarantino Names the Movie He Thinks is an Absolute Masterpiece

Quentin Tarantino recently shared his favorite movies of the 21st century in a conversation with author Bret Easton Ellis on Ellis’s podcast. He chose a Pixar film as his top pick.

He called Toy Story 3 a masterpiece and his favorite movie of 2010, the year the hugely popular film was released and famously made many people cry. Quentin Tarantino doesn’t see it as just a great animated film, but a truly “magnificent” story – one of the best movies he’s ever watched.

The director loves the Toy Story movies so much that he hasn’t been able to watch the recent ones. He feels the third film ended Woody and Buzz’s story perfectly, so he doesn’t see the point in continuing the series.

He’s well-known for saying he won’t watch the fourth movie because he believes the third film had a perfect ending – the best he’d ever seen. He compared the feeling of watching it to the epic conclusion of the classic Western, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

Quentin Tarantino has become a big fan of children’s television since having a son. He recently told Empire magazine that he genuinely enjoys watching Peppa Pig, even going so far as to call it “the greatest British import of this decade.” He said this with a smile, showing just how much he’s embraced this surprisingly family-friendly side of entertainment.

He appreciates classic British animation, but his first movie experience with his son was a longer process. He remembers watching Despicable Me 2 in short segments over a week. Tarantino said it was surprisingly engaging, and a good way to teach his son about movies and how stories unfold over time.

While he’s known for those beloved kids’ films, this director isn’t afraid to experiment. He’s openly admired the mind-bending visuals of Gaspar Noé’s Enter the Void, really appreciating how it pushes the boundaries with digital effects and animation. And he’s a huge fan of Team America: World Police – he thinks using puppets to deliver such sharp political commentary is brilliantly original and surprisingly effective. It’s clear he’s drawn to films that really play with the possibilities of the medium.

By the beginning of 2026, Quentin Tarantino is facing a big change in his career. He unexpectedly cancelled The Movie Critic, which he had planned to be his last film.

He’s been concentrating on writing lately, most recently as the screenwriter for the new David Fincher film, The Adventures of Cliff Booth. Starring Brad Pitt, this movie continues the story from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and finished filming in January.
