Queer TRAILER Out: What Happens When Daniel Craig’s William Lee Meets Drew Starkey’s Eugene Allerton In Mexico City? Watch

As a lifestyle expert with a penchant for unconventional love stories and a soft spot for films that delve into the complexities of human emotions, I must say that the trailer for A24’s upcoming romantic drama “Queer” has piqued my interest significantly. The blend of intrigue, romance, and a touch of the surreal, set against the backdrop of 1940s Mexico, promises a cinematic experience that is both captivating and thought-provoking.

24 Studios unveils the trailer for their upcoming romantic drama titled “Queer,” starring Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey in prominent roles. As the title implies, this movie delves into a complex love tale between characters William Lee (Craig) and Eugene Allerton (Starkey), set against the backdrop of 1940s Mexico. Directed by Luca Guadagnino, the film is an adaptation of William S. Burroughs’ novel with the same title.

In a different phrasing, William Lee (Craig), a character reminiscent of Burroughs, delves into the hidden nightlife of Mexico in search of a drug, which he thinks will bestow him with psychic powers. However, upon his arrival, an unexpected fascination develops for a young man named Allerton (Starkey).

Lee shares his experiences living in Mexico City alongside American student expats and bar owners, all working part-time jobs and making use of GI Bill benefits. He becomes fascinated by a certain young man, Allerton, who is loosely based on Adelbert Lewis Marker,” (paraphrased synopsis)

As a dedicated follower, I find myself immersed in the opening scene, strolling through the vibrant streets of Mexico. Upon reaching a local bar, I pause to observe as tensions escalate among the men inside. However, I remain detached, merely a spectator to the chaos unfolding before me. It is then that my gaze is drawn towards Starkey, who has been carefully watching me from a distance. Our eyes lock, and in that moment, an immediate bond seems to form between us. The camera subtly follows our interaction, capturing the spark of connection that has ignited.

The obvious tension between them appears to grow more palpable as they struggle to suppress it. In the trailer, Craig expresses that a wise queen once taught him that he has an obligation to live, to combat hate with wisdom, honesty, and affection. He acknowledges that the challenge lies in convincing someone else that they truly belong together.

While awaiting trial for murdering his wife Joan Vollmer (who he fatally shot during an attempted William Tell stunt), Burroughs penned the novel. Regarding the movie, it carries the hallucinogenic elements typical of Guadagnino’s productions. This upcoming film will be Guadagnino’s second project following his previous release, Challengers, featuring Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O’Connor.

This year’s Venice Film Festival saw the debut of the film “Queer”, which has garnered positive critic feedback. It is set to hit theaters on November 27th.
