In their own words, India Amarteifio and Corey Mylchreest discussed a beloved scene from the Queen Charlotte series. This spin-off follows the story of Queen Charlotte (played by Amarteifio) who, though initially arranged to marry King George (Mylchreest), eventually develops genuine feelings for him.
In the initial installment, it emerged that her brother had struck a deal involving marriage to the King, a union she found daunting as she’d never encountered him before. Determined to evade this wedding ceremony, she attempted to flee prior to making her way towards the altar.
As she laboriously scaled the palace’s walls, she crossed paths with the King. Their heartwarming chance encounter unfolded without him revealing his true self. However, upon disclosing his identity, she reconsiders her plan to elope and instead chooses to become his wife.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actors shared that the garden scene wasn’t their initial scene together. Amarteifio explained, “Since the garden scene came much later in the filming process, it was a bit challenging to rewind and replay so many steps.
In the first scene as the King and Queen, the actress revealed she’d built a relationship of trust and familiarity with her fellow actor. Their powerful characterizations made it difficult to convincingly depict their initial innocence.
Reflecting on that moment now, I realize that the situation demanded more attentive listening and responding, and it turned out to be beneficial for us to establish a comfortable connection beforehand. As I reminisce about that filming day, I can’t help but recall my apprehension over accidentally slipping off the wall while donning my elaborate Regency-era gown.
In that particular scene, I couldn’t help but feel a pang of self-consciousness as I compared my appearance to my co-star’s polished look. Wishing I had a chance to dial it up a notch, I found myself grateful for the opportunity to step back and observe instead. As it turns out, handling such situations with grace is something I’ve grown accustomed to. Mylchreest, portraying the King, commended me on my handling of the moment.
Queen Charlotte and Bridgerton seasons 1 to 3 are now streaming on Netflix.
