In the previous installment, we witnessed the assailant donning a Punisher vest. However, it was clear that Frank had no motive for Hector’s murder. Matt travels to a vague part of the city and descends into what appears to be an abandoned building’s cellar. He locates the manager’s office where, unexpectedly, he finds Frank Castle. Upon seeing each other, Frank dashes toward Matt as if he has just escaped from the depths of hell, prompting Matt to shout out his name. The Punisher inquires about Matt’s sudden visit. Matt shares details about the shooting incident and the bullet casing, which elicits a dismissive response from Frank: “So, it seems you have a group of gullible fans.” I can’t help but chuckle at this guy’s witty comebacks.

He’s curious to understand how the shooting involves him, and Matt replies by suggesting that he might be able to help using his resources in the bunker. In a humorous manner, Frank queries if “Red” is indeed willing to assist, implying that he seems more like a costumed character roaming the city instead of a helpful figure. As expected, they engage in a heated argument where they exchange insults. Frank dismisses Matt’s heroic act as shallow and criticizes him for arriving when he did. He accuses Matt of wanting his approval to cause harm and challenges him. Frank believes Matt is plagued by guilt, shame, and darkness, and he goads Matt about Foggy’s death, labeling him a coward for not taking action earlier. Matt strikes back at Frank in response, but quickly apologizes, to which Frank admits that it was the first honest thing Matt has done.

Jon Bernthal and Charlie Cox have an extraordinary on-screen chemistry. The way Frank constantly probes Matt’s emotional depths and challenges him in ways no one else does is truly captivating to watch. They both represent different aspects of the same character who has been deeply scarred by trauma. By the end, Matt is visibly emotional and it seems as if Frank is deep in thought too.

I can’t help but feel certain that we haven’t seen the last of the Punisher in “Daredevil: Born Again.” Judging by the photos circulating with Jon Bernthal in the vest and sporting Frank Castle’s iconic “back in business” hairstyle, it seems like he’s ready to get back into action. I must admit, the long hair and beard suit him, but there’s no doubt that Frank Castle always makes choices that align with his principles. With criminals misusing his Punisher symbol, it’s only natural for him to take matters into his own hands. I can’t wait to see how he intertwines with Matt Murdock’s story and further develops his character in this season.
