Netflix unveiled a trailer for its debut English-language medical series, titled “Pulse”, which is slated to premiere on April 3rd. Developed by Emmy winner Carlton Cuse and writer Zoe Robyn, the show takes place in Miami and delves into the demanding lives of doctors at Maguire Medical Center.
Robyn mentioned that it’s not ideal for anyone to be in the hospital,” she said to Tudum. “However, if you ever had to be in a hospital, this would be the one you’d prefer – it combines medical emergencies, office dynamics, and the tough choices made during life-or-death situations in an ER.
The story revolves around Dr. Danielle ‘Danny’ Simms, portrayed by Willa Fitzgerald, who is in her third year of residency at Maguire Medical Center. According to Robyn, Danny is both imperfect and multifaceted, which makes her a realistic and intriguing main character.
Colin Woodell portrays Dr. Xander Phillips, the head resident hailing from a prestigious medical lineage. His career and private life blend together when Danny experiences an unexpected promotion following his suspension. According to Carlton Cuse, Phillips is a member of a highly aristocratic medical family striving to forge his own path in life.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but delve into the intricacies of on-screen work dynamics, as this show masterfully does. Robyn, one of the creative minds behind the scenes, shares that their aim was to make Danny and Phillips’ romantic storyline feel authentic and reflective of real-life encounters.
The ensemble comprises Jack Bannon (Pennyworth), Jessie T. Usher (The Boys), Chelsea Muirhead (Warrior), Daniela Nieves (Vampire Academy), and Justina Machado. This group tackles personal feuds, camaraderie, and the stress of working in an emergency room.
As the season unfolds, Miami experiences a hurricane, intensifying the overall situation. “This event will only add to Danny’s burden,” Robyn said. The storm necessitates a hospital lockdown, further complicating the existing strained relationships.
The production team chose to shoot the series in both Miami and Albuquerque, New Mexico, aiming to reflect the lively and diverse ambiance of the cities. Robyn found the energy in these places to be truly distinctive, with a welcoming warmth that fosters unity among its inhabitants. Furthermore, Cuse noted that Miami provided an ideal backdrop for the medical drama.
Beginning April 3, all ten episodes of the series Pulse will debut on Netflix. The creators aimed to craft an intriguing and emotionally impactful narrative for the show. Cuse mentioned that their intention was to create a light-hearted and enjoyable production, making it perfect for viewers to relax and unwind following a stressful day.
