It appears that there are reports suggesting Sony may introduce a new PS5 Digital Edition in Europe, but unfortunately, this version seems to offer less value than the existing one. As per French site Dealabs, known for its accuracy, the new console’s internal storage will be reduced from 1 TB to 825 GB. Surprisingly, instead of adjusting the price to account for this downgrade, Sony plans to sell it at the same cost as the current models with a 1 TB SSD.
According to Dealabs, it appears Sony may be taking steps to prevent another price hike. However, by adopting the strategy of ‘shrinkflation’ – which essentially means reducing product size while maintaining the same price – they are in essence increasing prices indirectly.
If the information is accurate, the revised PS5 Digital Edition is expected to hit European stores on September 13, 2025. At this moment, it appears that there are no immediate plans to release this edition in the US market.
