There was widespread excitement on the internet, as people believed that Cillian Murphy had unexpectedly appeared in the trailer for the upcoming film “28 Years Later.” The reason for this belief was clear – the trailer depicted a thin, enraged character with a hairstyle reminiscent of his style from “Peaky Blinders” and facial features that bore a striking resemblance.
In the upcoming sequel to the 2002 success “28 Days Later,” directed by Danny Boyle and Alex Garland, it was speculated that the character of Jim, played by Murphy, might be making a reappearance.
Well, I was eagerly anticipating Cillian Murphy’s presence in the new trilogy’s first installment, but it turns out there’s a twist: Cillian Murphy himself isn’t featured in this film. Andrew Macdonald clarified this point during an interview with Empire magazine.
In response to your question, “Macdonald expressed in an interview with Empire that he desired Jim’s participation and so did Jim. However, Jim wasn’t part of the initial movie. Yet, Macdonald is optimistic about Jim’s presence in the future. Currently, Jim is serving as an executive producer, and Macdonald expresses his hope for collaborating with him in some capacity within the trilogy.
Although Murphy hasn’t made an appearance on-screen so far, he remains a significant figure within this project. McDonald has disclosed that Murphy is currently serving as an executive producer and may reappear in future films, such as “28 Days Later: The Bone Temple,” directed by Nia DaCosta and slated for release in 2026. If all goes smoothly with the trilogy, there’s a possibility that Murphy could once again be the center of attention.
The excitement was primarily generated by Angus Neill, the background actor whose presence caused the mix-up. In fact, Boyle’s companion noticed the similarity. Boyle confessed, “I showed my girlfriend the trailer, and she said, ‘People will think that’s Cillian.’ I didn’t believe her at first, but now I’ve had to acknowledge that she was right.
