As an ardent admirer of the British royal family, especially the Duke of Cambridge, Prince William, I find myself deeply moved by his ongoing commitment to addressing social issues, particularly homelessness. His latest documentary, “Prince William: We Can End Homelessness,” not only showcases his dedication but also offers a glimpse into his life experiences, as he recalls his childhood visits to The Passage with his late mother, Princess Diana.
In my recent documentary, I delved into a cherished memory from my past that I shared with my dear brother. This is one of the rare occasions where I’ve publicly spoken about him in quite some time.
In an upcoming documentary titled “Prince William: We Can End Homelessness,” a member of the British royal family discusses his five-year initiative known as Homewards, set to air on ITV on October 30 and 31, 2021.
Title of the program clearly indicates its focus: It’s about helping find homes for those without, inviting everyone to contribute towards this noble cause. This time, the voice resonating is that of William, echoing memories of the late Princess Diana who once brought a young Prince William and Harry to The Passage – an organization dedicated to assisting homeless individuals or those at risk.
According to William, Diana had a special talent for making people feel comfortable, and this resulted in a cheerful and welcoming ambiance despite the circumstances. Initially, he assumed that homeless individuals would be the saddest of all, but his assumption was contradicted as he found the atmosphere to be lively instead. In the documentary clip, he shared, “I had thought at the time, ‘If everyone is homeless, they’ll all be quite sad.’ However, it was amazing to witness how joyful the environment truly was.
Additionally, it broadened his perspective, revealing to him that there wasn’t just one method to navigate life in this world. Engaging with individuals who shared their struggles was a novel idea for him, helping him grasp some of the difficulties faced by many every day.
Beginning in 1993, William has consistently returned to The Passage, a charity that holds great significance for him. In fact, he was appointed as the organization’s patron in 2019 after making multiple trips there. During an interview in 2017, Harry echoed similar sentiments and expressed gratitude towards their mother for allowing them both to encounter the ‘ordinary world,’ as well as a variety of social issues such as homelessness.
In 2017, Harry shared with Newsweek that his mother played a significant role in exposing him to an ordinary life, such as taking him and his brother to visit homeless individuals. He’s grateful for this, as it helps keep him grounded and connected to reality. People might be surprised by the everyday lives led by William and himself.
Previously, the two brothers were spotted in public only during the memorial service that took place in August, honoring their relative Lord Robert Fellowes. Remarkably, at this event, it was noted that they did not exchange any words with each other.
