Prince Harry’s Invictus Games Returning To U.K. In 2027 With Birmingham As Host City

As a devoted fan of Prince Harry and the Invictus Games, I am thrilled beyond words to hear that Birmingham will be hosting the Paralympics-style sports tournament for veterans and wounded, injured, and sick members of the armed forces in 2027.

The Invictus Games founded by Prince Harry are returning to the United Kingdom after a decade of being held in various locations around the world. In 2027, Birmingham will have the honor of hosting this Paralympics-like sports competition for veterans and military personnel who have sustained injuries, wounds, or illnesses.

Instead of: “The English city was chosen over Washington, D.C., to bring the Invictus Games home for the first time since the inaugural season was held in London in 2014.”

After the upcoming games in Vancouver and Whistler, Canada, in February 2025, which are the next stops for the Invictus Games, Prince Harry urges the public to unite and honor the “deep respect and appreciation we hold for our veterans and military personnel” during the event in Birmingham.

On Tuesday, Rt Hon Al Carns, the UK Minister for Veterans and People, held a flag-raising ceremony at the National Exhibition Centre in the city to officially unveil the venue. Afterward, presentations were given showcasing the new sports joining the event: pickleball and laser run.

A look at the enduring legacy of the Invictus Games

Starting in London in 2014, the Invictus Games have taken place in various cities including Orlando in 2016, Toronto in 2017, Sydney in 2018, The Hague in 2022, and Düsseldorf in 2023.

Next February, British Columbia will have the privilege of hosting veterans preceding Birmingham’s turn.

Last year, Nigeria was the first African nation to participate in the games. In May of this year, Prince Harry and his spouse, Meghan Markle, made a visit to highlight the relationship between Nigeria and their Archewell Foundation, focusing particularly on its mental health program for youth.
