As a lifestyle expert and someone who closely follows royal news, I can’t help but feel deeply saddened by the ongoing strife within the Royal Family, particularly between Prince Harry and his relatives. The recent revelations about Prince Harry’s legal battles against British tabloids shed some light on this complex situation.

In a recent interview, Prince Harry explained that part of the strained relationships within the royal family is due to their choice not to legally challenge the British tabloid media. Yet, Harry has remained vague about the source of his conflicts with his elder brother, William, and father, Charles.

Prince Harry’s legal battle against British tabloids

The Duke of Sussex explains that one major cause of the rift between him and his family is their refusal to join him in taking legal action against British tabloids known for their harsh coverage. After relocating to Southern California with Meghan Markle in June 2020, he has made trips back to London to file lawsuits against several high court newspapers.

When ITV’s Rebecca Barry questioned Harry about whether speaking out against these documents had strained his ties with his family, he responded affirmatively. He expressed, “Whatever I share regarding my family triggers a deluge of hostile media coverage.”

On December 15, Prince Harry received a compensation of £140,600, equivalent to $178,255, from Britain’s High Court. This was following the confirmation that Mirror Group Newspapers had engaged in phone hacking between 2006 and 2011. The judge found strong evidence implicating private investigators in tabloid journalism. In February, it came to light that Harry would be reimbursed for his legal fees related to defamation lawsuits, along with an initial payment of £400k ($505k).

Princess Diana, as stated by Harry, was among the earliest individuals subjected to hacking by tabloids. Tragically, she met her end in Paris in 1997 while being pursued relentlessly by paparazzi. Contrary to common portrayals of her in the media as paranoid, it appears her concerns about their scrutiny were well-founded based on Harry’s account. He emphasized, “She wasn’t paranoid. She was entirely correct about the danger she faced, and unfortunately, she isn’t here today to validate her fears.”

Prince Harry is featuring in the Tabloids On Trial documentary

I’m a devoted fan and follower, and I’m excited to share that my interview with ITV will be featured in an upcoming documentary called “Tabloids On Trial.” This intriguing program delves into the stories of both celebrities and regular people who were unfortunate victims of phone hacking in 2011. It’s alleged that journalists and editors from various tabloids, including the Daily Mirror and News of the World, would illegally access our phone conversations using intercepting devices connected to telephone lines.

Harry expressed his strong conviction that his family should support him in addressing the scandal-mongering tabloids. He emphasized that he was taking these actions out of belief and duty, explaining, “Given my public position, I feel it is essential for us to do what’s best for the greater good. I’m doing this for my principles.”

In April 2023, as reported by Harry’s lawyers, a clandestine deal was struck between Harry and Queen Elizabeth. This agreement involved a substantial payment to conceal from the public “confidential and deeply personal voicemails.” This apparent resolution prevented Buckingham Palace from filing a lawsuit, but it also postponed Harry’s own case, according to his legal representatives. Eventually, the judge permitted Harry’s case to proceed, acknowledging that the litigation had been disrupted due to the family’s clandestine arrangement.

Harry has observed that these lawsuits have brought about significant advancements for the general public. At the same time, this prolonged dispute has deepened the divide between him and his family members. Nevertheless, Harry remains resolute in carrying out his purpose.
