Prince Harry and Prince William Tried to STOP King Charles from Marrying Camilla; Former Claims Princess Diana Connection

In a memoir published in 2023 titled “Spare,” Prince Harry disclosed that he and his brother, Prince William, had urged their father, King Charles, not to marry Camilla before they became King Charles and Queen Camilla. Now, as they celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary on April 9, discussions about Harry’s book comments have resurfaced once more.

In a heartfelt expression, I shared my concerns – “Although we embraced Camilla as a part of our father’s existence, I couldn’t help but worry about the public response if they were to marry. I implored, ‘There’s no need for remarriage,’ I penned down.

Holding a wedding might stir up debates, attract media attention, and spark global discussions comparing Mummy and Camilla, which was something that everyone, including Camilla herself, wished to avoid.

According to PEOPLE’s reporting, Harry mentioned in his book Spare that he and William felt sympathetic towards their father’s connection with Camilla, but they thought that tying the knot might draw unwanted publicity and press coverage.

Prince Harry revealed that he and Prince William both felt it appropriate for their father to have a suitable partner, and when prompted, they expressed their acceptance of Camilla joining the family. Nevertheless, they asked him to abstain from marrying her.

In other words, he added, “We’re on your side, we declared. We approve of Camilla, we declared. But please, don’t wed her. Simply cohabit, Harry,” but it seems that according to Harry, King Charles didn’t address their proposal.

Against the apprehensions expressed by his sons, Prince Charles proceeded with the wedding plans. He and Camilla Parker Bowles (as she was known then) made their engagement public in February 2005. They exchanged vows in a civil ceremony on April 9, 2005, at Windsor Guildhall. This was followed by a spiritual blessing at St. George’s Chapel, within the premises of Windsor Castle.

Harry and William participated in both events. The Queen and Prince Philip were present only for the religious ceremony. As the head of the Church of England, the Queen found it incongruous to participate in the civil wedding of individuals who had previously divorced. Nevertheless, she arranged a reception later on to express her solidarity.

Following their wedding, Camilla assumed the title of Duchess of Cornwall and gradually began taking on additional royal duties. In 2022, after the demise of Queen Elizabeth, she ascended to the throne alongside King Charles, a fulfillment of the late Queen’s public desire for Camilla to assume that position.
