As a cord-cutter who has been navigating the labyrinth of streaming services for years, I can’t help but feel a sense of relief and excitement at the latest development in the world of streaming – Apple TV+ joining Amazon Prime Video as an add-on service.
With an increase in subscription bundling, another player has entered the discussion. In the coming weeks, the streaming services of tech giants Apple and Amazon will collaborate, making Apple TV+ available as an additional option within Amazon Prime Video for $9.99.
As a devoted fan, I’ve noticed that the cost for the additional features in my subscription is strikingly similar to what Apple TV charges for their standalone service. What makes this interesting is that it’s not just my service choosing to be an add-on; Amazon Prime Video hosts over a hundred add-ons! From the Sony-owned anime streaming service Crunchyroll to Mubi, the art-house film streamer, and Curiosity Stream, a platform dedicated to documentaries, it seems like there’s a world of content waiting for me within this ecosystem.
Amazon’s Prime Video is a top choice for entertainment, boasting a vast library of high-quality programming. As we grow our content and make it simpler for users to customize their streaming experience within a single app, we are thrilled to onboard Apple TV+ and its award-winning series, movies, and special events to Prime Video,” expressed Mike Hopkins, Senior Vice President and Head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, upon the announcement of the partnership.
Including AppleTV+ as an additional service, priced the same as standalone, is a strategic move by Amazon to integrate more streaming services onto Prime Video’s platform. This allows customers to access multiple services from one convenient location and streamline their monthly bills.
Eddy Cue, Apple’s head of services, stated that the goal is to share Apple TV+’s collection of award-winning series and movies from renowned storytellers with as many people as possible. He’s delighted that Amazon Prime Video will now carry Apple TV+, providing viewers with a wide variety of viewing choices.
Amazon retains a portion of the subscription earnings from Apple TV+, similar to other supplementary services available on Prime Video. However, they are tight-lipped about the specifics of these arrangements, including the exact percentage or amount involved.
