‘Pretty Healthy Working Relationship’: Matt Damon Talks About Creative Arguments With Casey And Ben Affleck With Egos Left Out

As a die-hard fan who has witnessed the dynamic duo of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck (and occasionally Casey) weave their cinematic magic for over two decades, I can’t help but feel like I’m part of an exclusive club. Their professional bond is not just a collaboration; it’s a testament to their unwavering friendship that transcends the silver screen.

Matt Damon recently discussed his long-term professional bond with Casey and Ben Affleck in an interview with PEOPLE. He referred to their two decades of working together as quite robust. Although they often have creative disputes, he commended the Affleck brothers for being reliable and exceptional teammates.

Damon shared that their conversations are consistently beneficial and devoid of personal pride matters, stating, “They are constructive, and we understand one another deeply enough that emotions and self-importance typically play no part in them.”

On July 31, Damon and Casey Affleck grabbed headlines as they premiered their latest movie, “The Instigators,” at Jazz at Lincoln Center in Manhattan. The event saw the two actors, who used to share a house, receiving plenty of attention while marketing their new buddy-cop heist film.

In a conversation with various media outlets, Damon discussed his collaboration with the Affleck brothers over the years, highlighting that while they might have creative differences, these are predictable occurrences among them. He went on to say, “They’re consistently excellent,” expressing admiration for their reliability and professionalism.

It was Damon who disclosed that his spouse, Luciana Barroso, significantly contributed to the making of the movie. As Damon stated, it was Casey Affleck who sought Barroso’s assistance in persuading Damon to look over the script for The Instigators.

In the movie production, Barroso, who doubled as the producer, was instrumental to the project’s success. Damon, showing faith in her decisions, commented, “Whenever I encounter someone who shares my views passionately and firmly on a matter, I take a closer look.”

In the film titled “The Instigators,” helmed by director Doug Liman and penned by screenwriters Casey Affleck and Chuck Maclean, we follow the story of Damon and Casey portraying characters Rory and Cobby – a father-son team composed of a former convict and an ex-politician with a questionable past. They join forces to execute a daring heist against a morally bankrupt politician.

Due to their plans falling through, they turn to Rory’s therapist, portrayed by Hong Chau, for help. The movie additionally stars Jack Harlow, Ron Perlman, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Alfred Molina. The film is slated for a theatrical release on August 2, with an Apple TV+ debut following on August 9.
