In the v35.10 update of Fortnite, some exciting Star Wars elements were incorporated, including a General Grievous skin that portrays the cyborg with more of his organic components visible. As for cyborgs, Epic Games and Disney introduced an AI-driven Darth Vader figure in this update, serving as a chatbot players can interact with – a thoughtful addition, if not as sinister as Emperor Palpatine’s followers might be.

Indeed, it’s not surprising that an early-stage AI is influenced by the internet, especially when exposed to games like Fortnite. Players seem to be encouraging the AI to utter offensive language, transforming the once innocent Sith Lord into a sailor-like character, despite limitations on its use of specific topics and words. It seems that, in some ways, the AI’s interactions mirror the adaptability shown by life itself.

Even the overconfident and inexperienced Jedi characters from the prequels, whose Force perceptions were obscured by Palpatine’s dark-side manipulations, should have foreseen such an outcome.

It’s uncertain how Epic Games and Disney will respond to these recent events, but considering Disney’s family-oriented image and the potential for inappropriate content spreading online with a famous character like theirs, it could potentially put an end to the fun sooner than Darth Vader did to the younglings.

Including James Earl Jones’ voice in this project could stir some controversy among fans, however, he granted permission for its use prior to his passing. His family has also endorsed his Fortnite appearance, but much like Disney, it remains uncertain how long their approval will last once they become aware of the messages being conveyed through him.

Although AI Vader is causing quite a stir for the game today, Apple has made it more difficult for Fortnite to come back to iOS than the Trade Federation did when they severed connections with Naboo.
