PREDATOR: BADLANDS First Teaser Turns the Iconic Monster Into a Hero

In the realm of cinema, The Predator is undeniably one of the most recognized, impactful, and terrifying creatures. Many who cross paths with these lethal beings, whether human or otherwise, rarely survive the encounter. However, the upcoming chapter in this franchise promises to overturn everything we thought we knew about that notorious extraterrestrial. Director Dan Trachtenberg is flipping one of Hollywood’s most formidable villains into a hero, as shown in the first teaser for Predators: Badlands. It seems that it’s often smarter to join forces with a Predator rather than confront it.

Around thirty years since our initial meeting with the Predator character, the franchise is set to reveal an alternate aspect of its title beast. By transporting us back to a specific era on Earth, director Dan Trachtenberg for ‘Prey’ is now delving into a different world for a unique spin-off within the series. Here’s the movie’s official synopsis from 20th Century Studios:

(Synopsis): In this new installment of the Predator franchise, titled ‘Prey’, we journey to an uncharted and untamed Comanche-dominated world. A skilled Comanche warrior named Naru fights to protect her tribe against a highly-evolved alien predator that stalks the undefeated wilderness. As she uses every resource at her disposal to outwit this formidable extraterrestrial, Naru begins to uncover truths about her own heritage and discovers the origin of the Predator species itself. ‘Prey’ is set to release on August 5th, 2022, by 20th Century Studios.

In the future, on a distant planet, we find the movie “Badlands,” starring Elle Fanning and Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi. Here, a young Predator (Schuster-Koloamatangi), shunned by his clan, encounters an unexpected friend in Thia (Fanning). Together, they embark on a perilous adventure to locate their greatest enemy.

In the upcoming film, Dakota Fanning will take on more than one character. She’ll be portraying multiple roles, and while the exact details are still unclear from this trailer, it appears that she plays a significant part in the story. Previously, director Trachtenberg mentioned that Fanning dealt with challenging situations during the filming process, both dramatically, physically, and logistically.

Given that the studio describes the setting as a “world of pain,” it’s not surprising that Predator: Badlands will reveal why when it transforms one of cinema’s deadliest antagonists into a protagonist this autumn. The movie hits theaters and IMAX on November 7, 2025.
