As I mentioned on Friday, Predator: Badlands is expected to lose $60 million or more. The latest weekend box office numbers are in, and unfortunately, the situation hasn’t improved.
After 17 days, Predator: Badlands has earned $76.28 million in the US and $83.3 million internationally, bringing its worldwide total to $159.58 million. Unfortunately, these numbers suggest the film is struggling to succeed.
The movie cost $105 million to make, and generally needs to earn around $262.5 million worldwide to cover its costs. Currently, it’s about $100 million short of reaching that goal.

Domestic Finish: ~$95–100 Million At Best
Here in the US, Badlands isn’t performing as well as Weapons, which had a similar opening and ultimately grossed $151.55 million. After 17 days in theaters, Weapons earned $115.68 million, while Badlands has made $76.28 million. Badlands is also seeing steeper declines in ticket sales each weekend.
After three weeks in theaters, Weapons earned over $15.4 million. Badlands brought in less than half that amount, with a total of $6.25 million.
If Badlands performs like other movies in its genre, with a boost in earnings towards the end of its run—but declines a bit faster than Weapons—it’s likely to finish with around $95–100 million domestically. To earn significantly more than that, it would need to maintain strong audience numbers, which it hasn’t demonstrated yet.

Worldwide Total Likely Far Below Break-Even
Worldwide, Badlands has earned around $83.3 million, with another $13 million coming in this weekend from international audiences. Even if its performance continues to match its domestic success and international markets bring in an additional $25 to $35 million before the film finishes its run, the total worldwide earnings are still projected to be in the $200–210 million range.
Okay, let’s talk numbers. This film is significantly underperforming. While the production cost $262.5 million, it hasn’t even come close to earning that back. When you add in all the money spent on marketing and getting it into theaters, we’re looking at a potential loss of $60 to $70 million, possibly even more. Thankfully, things like streaming and DVD sales might help recoup some of that, but right now, it’s a pretty bleak financial picture.

What This Means For The Predator Franchise
As we’ve discussed, Predator: Badlands initially looked promising and gave Disney and 20th Century Studios reason to be optimistic. However, declining ticket sales over the weekend, weaker daily numbers, and a high production cost now indicate the film will likely not meet expectations.
If the movie makes around $200 million globally with a $105 million production cost, the studio might reconsider always releasing films from this franchise in theaters.
If this movie does well, it could lead to future Predator films being released directly on streaming services, like Prey, rather than receiving expensive theatrical releases.
