The new movie, Predator: Badlands, has exceeded all expectations, earning over $39 million this weekend. This is significantly higher than the predicted $25 million and marks a record for the Predator series.
The new film, directed by Dan Trachtenberg, has had the biggest opening weekend in the franchise’s 38-year history, earning more than the $38.2 million debut of Alien vs. Predator in 2004 (when adjusted for ticket price increases).

A Strong Weekend Surge
The movie continued to perform well over the weekend. It earned $14 million on Saturday, which was only a 10% decrease from the $15.6 million it made on Friday. This total includes $4.8 million earned from showings on Wednesday and Thursday.

Critics, Fans, and CinemaScore All Coming In Hot
The strong opening lines up with the early reception:
- Rotten Tomatoes Critics Score: 85%
- Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score: 95%
- CinemaScore: A-
Those figures surpass both the recent Prey movie and the original Predator film, making Badlands one of the most well-received installments in the series so far.
A Big Win for Elle Fanning
This film is a significant achievement for Elle Fanning. It had her second-highest opening weekend in the US and Canada, earning more than Maleficent: Mistress of Evil ($36.9M) but less than Maleficent ($69.4M).
