You learn a lot about someone by their reaction to PowerWash Simulator. Most people are confused and amused, dismissing it as a silly game. But there’s another type of person: they’ll laugh at first, then pause and think, “Wait, that actually sounds enjoyable.” I’ve decided I only want to be friends with people who have that second reaction.
If you don’t appreciate the satisfaction of transforming something really dirty into something sparkling clean, I pity you – it’s one of life’s most reliable joys. This way of thinking helps me find pleasure in everyday tasks, though it could also be considered a quirk.
I’ve always enjoyed games that simulate everyday jobs, like House Flipper and Euro Truck Simulator, even considering my neurodivergence. It’s satisfying to complete big projects that would be costly or difficult to do in real life, all from the comfort of home. While power washing isn’t as glamorous as driving a truck across Europe, most people only get to use a power washer on something as mundane as a driveway. That’s where playing a power washing game really shines – it makes the experience much more exciting!
You begin with just a van and a portable toilet, but quickly you’ll find yourself cleaning enormous structures like mansions, huge billboards, and even buildings shaped like teapots! The level design is a major improvement over the first game, offering much more complex and creative environments. Expect things like a giant teapot and tricky challenges, such as a carnival gallery where spraying the wrong targets activates everything around you.
The game now offers a much wider range of tools to help you explore. Instead of just a few ladders, you can use scaffolding, scissor lifts, and harnesses to easily reach every part of the large and intricate structures. This makes exploration much smoother and eliminates the frustration of previously hard-to-reach areas.
I’m really excited about how they’ve improved things this time around! The first game could be a little frustrating when you were trying to find everything, but they’ve added a checklist for every single item in each level, which is a huge help. You can pull it up whenever you need to see what’s left. And it gets even better! When you’re down to the last few dirty spots, the game actually shows you where they are with markers! No more endlessly searching every inch of the level. They even kept the button from the first game that highlights dirt, just in case! It’s a really thoughtful change.
The new multi-stage jobs are particularly helpful because they keep expanding – you’ll finish cleaning one area, then another will appear. While the game is about the satisfying process of completing a detailed task, it’s great to have tools that make it faster. Now you can unlock the surface cleaner, which is perfect for quickly cleaning large, flat surfaces.
One of my favorite things about the career mode is how each cleaning job feels a little more personal. Before I start, the client always gives me some background on what I’m cleaning and why it’s important to them. But it doesn’t stop there! As I’m working, little text and chat bubbles pop up on the screen, letting me see conversations between the client and people they know. It’s cool to see what people are saying about the job or just witness little dramas unfold – like seeing two carnival workers resolve a disagreement while I clean. The writing isn’t groundbreaking, but it really adds to the world and makes all the weird, dirty stuff feel more… alive, you know?
This sequel delivers exactly what fans of the first game would hope for: more of the same enjoyable gameplay, but improved and expanded. It doesn’t stray from the original’s winning formula, instead focusing on refining the experience and making everything bigger and better. While some might wish for more innovation, this game isn’t about reinventing the wheel – unless you consider the scent of fresh soap a new feature!
