For several years, Summers has been a well-established presence in the world of entertainment. Although he’s best known for his lively hosting stints on shows like Double Dare and Unwrapped, his latest role in films marks a fresh phase in his career.
The 72-year-old presenter readily acknowledged that he isn’t commonly associated with acting. In fact, during a recent episode of New York Living, he playfully admitted that he had always aspired to be in the entertainment industry but felt he lacked any real talent. Given that he began his career at 34 on Double Dare, this acting opportunity came relatively late in his professional life.
The path leading to his starring role in “Hanukkah on the Rocks” took an unforeseen turn, as he shared with the journalists. Following a solo performance in New York, someone from Hallmark happened to be present and had a brief conversation with him. Shortly after, the network contacted him about a film they were working on.
At first, Summers expressed reservations, going so far as to remark, “I’m not sure about this; I don’t act.” However, the executive from Hallmark countered, reminding him that she had witnessed his talent in a previous performance. After perusing 20 pages of the script, he ultimately mustered the courage to give it a try.
Initially taken aback, Summers found out that he would be among the main actors in the movie following his acceptance of the role. At first, a wave of doubt washed over him as he pondered, ‘What have I got myself into?’ However, post-filming, he expressed satisfaction with the final product. Despite initial apprehensions about appearing as an amateur actor, he managed to pull off a convincing performance.
35 years back, Summers admitted to having taken acting classes, both in New York and Los Angeles. At that point, he wasn’t fully assured of his abilities. However, it took him a considerable amount of time to gain the confidence needed to seize the opportunity. Looking at his remarks now, it’s clear that he is incredibly pleased with his decision.
Speaking about his performance in “Hanukkah on the Rocks“, he mentioned a climactic scene near the end where he needed to shed tears. He doubted whether he could manage it, yet found himself effortlessly doing so to his surprise.
The Hallmark production features their second movie focusing on Hanukkah, and Summers enjoyed working on it immensely. Additionally, he hinted at possible acting opportunities in the future, even suggesting potential work on a Broadway stage.
In Summer’s eyes, this role transcends being merely a movie. Instead, it symbolizes the culmination of a dream he had nurtured but not fully explored until now. At 72 years old, his readiness to venture into uncharted territories serves as an inspiring testament that one can always take on fresh challenges, no matter the age.
